image Tutorials: L33t Hacker University? Network Security Degrees Gain Popularity. image
General News
Anonymous writes "The University of Advancing Technology (UAT) of Tempe, AZ reports that its accredited degree in Network Security is gaining in popularity among young persons who want the knowledge and insight of Hackers, but with potential for a high paying career. Matching the rise in cyber crime and the industry need for qualified security professionals, student enrollment in security related courses continues to grow.

A sample of security related courses being offered at UAT includes:
Introduction to C, Object-Oriented Programming with C++, Data Structures, Firewall Essentials, Network Security Essentials, TCP/IP, Network Security Administration, Network Exploits, Hacking Overview, Network Monitoring, Encryption Theory, Data Encryption, Internet Information Server, and Linux Networking and Security

Campus groups such as the security related Infrgard are also attracting more student participation. While security certification programs have been available from technical schools for a while, it seems likely that more 4 year universities like UAT will be following UAT's lead by adding Network and Information Security to their computer degree programs. Geeks Rejoice! Now Hackers-turned-pro can make bank $$$ without breaking into one... "
