Microsoft has updated the security information on its site for the vulnerability in the Windows kernel which was announced on Thursday.

The update addresses doubts raised by the editor of the NTBugTraq mailing list, Russ Cooper, and covered in these columns.

The update states that the patch for this flaw, the subject of the 13th security bulletin released by the company this year, supercedes the Windows 2000 patch discussed in the seventh security bulletin for the year. It added that the Windows 2000 patch could be installed on systems running Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3.
