Trend Micro Ships Anti-Virus Product with Anti-Spam
SEATTLE (Reuters) - Computer security software maker Trend Micro Inc. (TMIC.O: Quote, Profile, Research) (4704.T: Quote, Profile, Research) released the latest version of its PC-cillin anti-virus software on Monday, which now offers spam-filtering capabilities and the ability to monitor networks for viruses.
The world's third-largest anti-virus software maker said that the latest version of its flagship anti-virus retail product was aimed at protecting high-speed Internet users from attacks, identity theft, spam, or unsolicited e-mail as well as the viruses that damage computer systems.
This year, users have been plagued by new viruses, including the Blaster worm that burrowed into hundreds of thousands of computers and destroyed data.
The program also tracks and eliminates spyware, or mini-programs left on PC hard drives by Web sites to monitor user activity.
PC-cillin Internet Security will mainly be marketed in North America, the Tokyo-based company said.
Users can buy the software for about $50 or upgrade from a previous version for half of the cost.
