Cyber Security
To accomplish great things, we must not only act,
but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.
Anatole France (1844-1924); French writer.

- (V) New Internet threats: jokes (01/21/04).
Jokes are small programs -not viruses- designed to make users think their
computers have been infected by a virus. They don't cause direct damage to
PCs -such as data loss, spamming, etc.- but, they can have indirect
detrimental effects on users, as they can causes users to quickly switch off
their computers, which could lead to loss of data or system settings.

- New version of Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (01/22/04).
Microsoft has released version 1.2 of Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer
(MBSA), which includes extra features and supports new products. The
improvements incorporated in the new version of MBSA include alternate file
support, a check for Internet Connection Firewall (ICF), and custom Internet
Explorer zones interpretation.

- Problems in Apache modules (01/23/04).
SecurityTracker has reported vulnerabilities in the mod_perl and mod_python
modules in Apache, which can be used to run scripts on the Apache server.
The security flaw that affects mod_perl could allow a user to take over the
Apache http and https services. The vulnerability in the mod_python module
allows an attacker to cause the web server to crash by constructing a
