Password Safe vs 2.03
Password Safe is a password database utility. Users can keep their passwords securely encrypted on their computers. A single Safe Combination unlocks them all.
Originally developed by counterpane labs, it is an opensource project.
Some might be thinking, why would I need a password safe? I remember my password, I use the same one for everything....
Imagine if you will for a minute...Your password is a familiar phrase, your childhood pets name, your SSN, a birthday. You use that same information to access online banking, credit cards, shopping online, ebay, tax information etc etc etc. Now imagine if someone who had nothing better to do with their time created a library of the hashes created when a password is encrypted. If you are using normal words it is VERY easy to crack, if you are using numbers and words it is more difficult, if you are using numbers, words and characters.... you get the picture.
The chance of one password being discovered and exploited is much greater then having several discovered and exploited. I highly recommend to everyone if you have passwords for things you do online use a product like this. A little time to enter the passwords, maybe change or create a few new ones can prevent a nightmare in the future. No one wants their identity stolen, or their privacy exploited.
