image Press Release: Comodo puts an end to SPAM with a Free tool image
SPAM
webitpr writes "New Jersey 18th May 2005 Comodo, the online security specialists, today announced the release of Comodo AntiSpam Desktop 2005. Free to install and use, AntiSpam 2005 employs a unique authentication technology to thwart spammers. The application also forms another component in Comodo’s expanding portfolio of state of the art consumer protection technologies which are provided to end users at no cost.

Comodo AntiSpam is based around a highly effective challenge-response system - an active filtering algorithm that requires the sender of each message to validate themselves before they can be accepted onto a user’s authorized senders list. Each ‘challenge’ email contains a non-machine readable graphic of the user’s antispam passcode that must be read, understood and typed into the body of the ‘response’ email – a system that automated spam bots cannot easily circumvent.

Melih Abdulhayoglu, President and CEO Comodo, believes that eradicating junk mail is an essential part of maintaining consumer confidence in e-commerce:
“Spam provides the most popular vehicle for a range of privacy and security attacks, including phishing scams, adware, Trojans and viruses. Comodo has declared war on these threats. We are committed to an ongoing program of providing security tools to end-users. Our range includes Verification Engine, TrustToolBar, free Email certificates and now, AntiSpam – and more will be arriving shortly.”

Comodo AntiSpam supports all major mail clients, protects multiple email accounts and features a proactive spam reporting facility. The easy to use interface provides fast, centralised access to quarantined mails, authentication lists and mail server settings.
Furthermore, Server Synchronisation enables users to automatically transfer their antispam policies to whichever machine they are seated at.

“Apart from being invasive and time consuming, junk mail has become one of the most lucrative business models for today’s cyber- criminals. The only way we will ever beat the fraudsters is through vendor provisioning of client side security software and collateral to the consumer. Comodo is proud to be at the vanguard of this movement.”

Comodo AntiSpam is 100% free to install and use.

Pathetic!
Sickening even.

First of all, this company has not been around long enough to be called (by whom) security specialists.

Second, this method of so called e-mail security is most certainly, nothing new, and in fact, has been in use for years.

Finally, this entire process relies on adding yet another link in the chain of events to get email. It uses a 3rd party and it represents just another means of something going wrong.

If you are serious enough to consider such madness, take control yourself and host your own SMTP server; most of which today already feature this, and many other security measures to thwart SPAM and various other email problems.
