Hotbar has recently been sending out cease and desist letters to companies such as Sunbelt Software and Javacool Software. Symantec recently filed a lawsuit against Hotbar demanding the right to keep cleaning any trace of them. eWeek is reporting how Hotbar is in trouble with more entities. TRUSTe has pulled Hotbar's authorization to use their Seal. What is more? The BBBOnLine Reliability Seal was awarded to both Hotbar and yes, the old iDownload.
Hotbar is listed at the BBBOnLine "H" page as:
Hotbar.com, Inc.
www.hotbar.com
An Internet company dedicated to customizing and maximizing the Web's interactive potential. Hotbar is a patent pending revolutionary browser and email add-on that provides enhanced functionality and visual appeal.
iDownload is also listed at the BBB's "I" page as:
iDownload.com
www.idownload.com
Design and marketing services. Consumer software sales.
I must ask the question, how are such companies permitted entry into "reliable" and "truste"worthy programs? Hotbar is quick to point out that companies like Microsoft and Lavasoft no longer list them in their removal products. For a complete list of all threats, see here at Ben Edelman's.
