image Microsoft to buy Claria? image
Spackers
NYTimes is reporting that Microsoft has been in talks with Claria for about two weeks in a buyout deal: "The offer price on the table as recently as yesterday was $500 million, according to people who have been briefed on the talks. But a person close to Microsoft said last night that the negotiations were on the verge of breaking off. ... Claria, which changed its name from Gator two years ago, has been criticized by privacy advocates and sued by Web publishers, including The New York Times Company. " However, there is opposition within Microsoft to discontinue talks and not purchase Claria. Would it be possible that Microsoft buys out Claria and shuts them down entirely? Goodbye to the old Gator/new Claria problems so many users face? That would be one way to take care of the Claria issue.

Coming from someone who analyzes scan results everyday with peoples computers infected with Claria GAIN, ScreenScenes, DashBar,Trickler, Web Secure Alert, Weatherscope, Precision Time, Date Manager, Gator eWallet, etc...I can say I will not miss them.

Ha, what you fail to realise is that MS has looked at the performance of Gator/Claria software and thought to themselves, now there's a company who writes good code, we could learn from these guys and incorporate many of their techniques and privacy invading techniques. MS plan to model their future software releases on buggy clariaware!

Maybe this is why Microsoft recently excluded Claria products from their Antispyware definitions.

If all this is true does that mean its not spyware if they own it?
