kanaan writes "New Haven, CT, September 8, 2005. CallingID (www.callingid.com ), a provider of anti-phishing solutions, today announced that its solution, CallingID for the Internet, automatically protects Web donors from becoming victims of scammers luring them to bogus charity sites.
Over the last few days we have witnessed ugly scamming attempts, convincing Internet users to donate money to bogus charity sites that pretend to be legitimate relief websites which help Hurricane Katrina victims, said Yoram Nissenboim, CallingID CEO. CallingID automatically detects these scam sites and protects the user from sending personal information to scammers. Furthermore, CallingID validates real charity sites, providing users with a green light indicating that it is OK to donate via the Internet to these organizations when they meet the standards set by Better Business Bureau (BBB).
CallingID for the Internet protects users from inadvertently accessing unreliable sites. It automatically provides the user with information about the authenticity of the site, including website owner, its location, and its legitimacy. CallingID verifies that the site owner is a real organization. It uses external sources such as BBB and consumers rating sites that grade charity and eCommerce sites. When a user approaches a pre-rated site, CallingID automatically shows an indication about that site as good, fair or suspected. When a charity site fails to meet BBB standards it is rated as suspected. If the site owner hides its identity the user is immediately warned. If any of the information is suspicious, such as a location in an unexpected country, users are advised to rethink their intention to submit personal information or to place an order from that site. CallingID automatically executes 52 different verification tests and summarizes the results in a simple conclusion: “verified”, “low risk” or “high risk”.
A personal copy of CallingID for the Internet can be downloaded for free from www.callingid.com . Installation is fast and simple.
CallingID's special product for website owners (such as charity organizations and banks), Safety Seal, has two extra protection features:
- The web site customers cannot login by mistake to a site which is not the real site. .CallingID detects such attempts before the user submits the data and alerts the user to abort.
- Even if the customers’ computer is infected by spyware or Trojan software, his login parameters cannot be identified by that software.
When a site registers with CallingID as Safety Seal Verified, all its customers receive CallingID’s complete anti-phishing solution.
