Internet swindle report from Belgium |
f6cvalkyrie writes "In 2004, 10769 attempts to swindle by means of the Internet were reported to the Federal Computer Crime Unit (FCCU), the Belgian Police Force which takes care of computer crime.
This becomes clear from an answer of Minister Onkelinx (PS) to a question of CD&V- MP Roel Deseyn. The figures come from research of the Executive Board for combating economic and financial crime.
The number of effectively completed offences grew from 56 in 2002, over 117 in 2003, up to 265 in 2004. The victims suffered losses between 45 and 31555 euro, with an average of almost 4700 euro. In only one third of the cases, the suspect was located in Belgium.
