AVIRA Introduces Incremental Update Method for Virus Definitions |
|
|

avira writes "December 7, 2005
The incremental VDF Updates method consists in having the virus definitions into four files, designed for different update intervals, allowing updates grouping on a monthly, weekly or daily basis. In this way, the usual update will only replace the daily VDF, which will have only a few hundred kilobytes. This means that download volume and download time will be considerably reduced, resulting in minimized download costs and maximized security level of the system. Instead of downloading the previous larger VDF, AVIRA users will now be able to install only those virus definitions that have been added since their last VDF update.
AVIRA for Unix products
The incremental VDF update is supported by all AVIRA solutions for Unix: the upgrade to the incremental VDF updates is done automatically for all Unix products. In order to ensure a smooth transition from the previous product structure (included in engine version 6.32) to the new one, we recommend our AVIRA for Unix users to install the latest product kits from our website.
AVIRA for Windows Server
In order to benefit from the new incremental updates method, AVIRA for Windows Server users are urged to install the latest product kit available on our global website. The new version will be able to perform incremental updates of the virus definitions without any further configuration. *
We invite you to try out our newly released series, available for download from our global website. You may also purchase your solution of choice from our online store or directly from AVIRA GmbH or through its recommended partners.
Note: * AVIRA will support the old VDF update method until May 31, 2006. Starting with June 2006, this technique will no longer be available.
