So we have a member that uses Trend Micro Privacy Protection (Web) who has been unable to login here because -- get this -- Trend Micro says we're trying to get the member's credit card info, ergo we are "Blocked". The member ran a quick "nslookup castlecops.com" and sure enough, there is no redirection via hosts. Here is the image the member provided:
This is a bad signature Trend Micro is using, we are ok! Everyday folks login to CastleCops on that page and it only asks for your username, password, and security code. We don't want your credit card information! Our service is free.
You know what the funny thing is? We direct people to use Trend Micro in our forums and wiki to help clean their systems,
example.
So I'm trying to contact a live person at Trend Micro and nothing. I get passed around like a hot potato in their automated phone system. Thanks Trend... you're blocking folks from logging in and getting help, especially with exploits such as the
WMF Vulnerability.
UPDATE: This same member also reported Trend is not permitting any access to CastleCops.com. Talk about a blunder on Trend's part. Blacking out a security site.
OUR ADVICE: Click "Add Exception" to gain entry to CastleCops, and report this as a bug to Trend immediately.
Which Trend Micro tool is at fault? PC Cillin.
UPDATE: 2000 hours UTC-5 / 03 Jan
A test has been run using the latest definitions and all the PC Picillin options enabled, and Trend was
not blocking access to CastleCops. So we're unsure what is going on, however, the folks at Trend Micro are looking into this. Anyone else have further information please feel free to submit feedback.
