Kevin McAleavey is First Scientist to Detect New Strain of Malware which Mutates and Jumps from Computers to Humans

Leading expert in malware and trojans hopes disclosure will prevent global pandemic

Jersey City, NJ (April 01, 2007)
- Comodo, a global Certification Authority and leading provider of Identity and Trust Assurance Management solutions, announced today that Kevin McAleavey — a world-renowned expert in malware detection who recently joined Comodo — identified a new form of malware that has made the leap from computers to humans. This severe form of malware, called “New GermZ” (MW51), first infected isolated populations of IT administrators in several European and Asian countries at the beginning of the year but has been spreading rapidly. The Center for Malware Control is baffled but is planning an upcoming global press conference to address the issue. No fatalities have yet been reported, but Comodo has received an insurmountable deluge of IT resumes.

BACKGROUND

MW51 is a derivative of a recently mutated malware that affects older computers and certain types of network administrators. According to McAleavey, there is mounting evidence that the MW51 strain has the unique capacity to jump from inanimate objects to humans causing infection. Infected individuals report slower response times to support tickets, the inability to complete IT tickets, the loss of concentration on QA tasks and an overwhelming urge to upgrade their entire facility to Win95.

Yeah, nice hoax. lol. that would be impossible, though.

This is most serious indeed and I must say I feel the preventative measures suggested under what can you do fall far short of the actions required to deal with this threat to humanity. I believe it is essential that all owners and operators immediately insert a cd /dvd coated with two crushed asprin into each of their machine's cd drives. All should immediately download and install the latest version of the British Medical Journal. Monitors / TFT's should be sprayed with germaway while systems should be wrapped in a quality foxford blanket to keep them warm. All should be on their guard for coughing noises emitting from Woofers, Speakers etc. Don't go out unless you have engaged a pc minder and don't let younger pc's sleep alone unless you have a working baby pc alarm. Finally you should call Doctor Who on 123 O Leary. He may be the only one who can help.

NaNu NaNu.

this is going to be PAN_DEMIC !

I THINK THAT THE MOST VULNERABLE AREAS ARE GOING TO BE THE UNDERDEVELOPED COUNTRIES WHERE THEY DO NOT USE PROPER ANTI MALWARE LAYERED PROTECTION.

the Trojan form is already out and in the wild.

Paul, I just got back from the doctor. He recommended that I do a full security scan on my PC (which I had luckily started before I left), but also warned me that I could pass the virus back to my PC even after it was just cleaned. He said I should wear rubber gloves when using my PC until I am no longer contagious.

Do you have a pair I can borrow?

Oh, wait, I typed this without out gloves. We're all doomed! :-D ::017::

My primary issue is not with MW51 or related retro-malware, rather - nanorobots. I'm looking forward to learning if Comodo is offering an upgrade to deal with this concern.

Comodo is now in business for the serious global enterprise money - they have recently bought some of the best as senior techs and they think far outside of the box. I'm no seriously senior expert like my son-in-law who's the CTO for a major global enterprise security provider we all know and hate lol, but he tells me the topic addressed in this string is the real deal of future security but right now. Colleagues with people like Joanna Rutkowska—security researcher at COSEINC who was the first to hack Vista last summer, my kid graduated Stanford MS CompSci in the same class that our two beloved Google founders would have if they weren't college drop-out's lol. For the people who happen upon this string, I would take the Comodo news serious as a heart attack as the saying goes. But - please do not misinterpret me - I am not saying you should all go out and free or buy their products - do the free firewall for now if you're more expert than users of the free Zone Alarm to name one; but that's it for now. This is a company in serious progress but within their niche of smallish global enterprise - repeat - enterprise security providers like COSEINC.
