Anti-Terror
A sad state of affairs when antiscammers are shut down permanently due to distributed denial of service attacks. FraudWatchers.org it seems through our forums:

has closed shop for good due to the DDoS. But where the initiators of this attack go wrong is in thinking that their members will now all walk home "party's over" style. They'll regroup at the other anti-spam, anti-phishing and anti-fraud sites and they are going to be very angry and so - yes - the bot lamers' intentions are backfiring.

Long term I would agree that whatever services fraudwatchers.org offered are likely to be offered in another fashion somewhere else.

In the short term claiming that the bot operators intentions are backfiring is denial of the obvious.

Fraudwatchers.org is already missed by the members as this was a great antifraud site. This was a site that tirelessly helped those people who might otherwise fall victim of a scam by providing education, examples of fraud, news articles, research and tutorials and much more.

I sincerely hope that they will re-group and be able to get back to business. again. I do not believe that this is the end of Fraudwatchers.

It is indeed sad that this had to happen. However, most members of groups like these belong to multiple complimentary groups simultaneously.

As such the botmaster's victory is also his loss since the ex-members will come right back at him and his operations with more deliberate energy and focus under another more consolidated umbrella. Where the functions of a group forced to close no longer exists, those functions merely get absorbed in another group if a new group does not get formed.

This has certainly been the case. While some sites are not active on the web, their members are, and extremely successfully so. Such a group is exactly that; a group of people. You cannot force a person from the Internet like you would do a website, their knowledge and goals remain and they will keep on popping up more determined than ever.

Personally: I never bothered too much with certain types of Internet abuse most likely perpetrated by the very same bot masters , however I have made time for these activities.
