You may know about them then again maybe not! At CastleCops there are several groups of volunteers that are working hard to keep our In-boxes and Internet experience free from Phish, Spam and Malware. As you know, (just check your in-box) this is not an easy task and they could use YOUR help!

How can you help? To start you can read through the following information and then decide where and how you can best help them to accomplish this seemingly impossible task.

Phishing Incident Reporting and Termination Squad (PIRT). Being on the PIRT squad helps shut down Phishing sites, and you can volunteer in this global event in any of the following ways:

Submit new Phishing scams for takedown
Generate reports from new Phish submissions
Contact the appropriate authorities for Phish termination

The Malware Incident Reporting and Termination (MIRT) squad helps get Malware removed from the internet and you can volunteer in this global event in any of the following ways:

Submitting Malware URLs to MIRT
If you join the MIRT team you can generate reports from new Malware submissions
Contact the appropriate authorities and ask them to remove Malware hosted on their network

Being on the Spamming Incident Reporting and Termination (SIRT) squad helps shut down spamming sites. You can volunteer in this global event in any of the following ways:

Submit new spams for takedown
Generate reports from new spam removal submissions
Contact the appropriate authorities for spamming termination

Since the work of PIRT, SIRT and MIRT Handlers involves preparing evidence for Law Enforcement, there will necessarily be a process of "vetting" to ensure you are genuine in your desire to help prevent the criminal aspects of spamming. Once your credentials have been checked, you will be enrolled as a volunteer, and the education materials will be made available to you.

With your help in one or more of the above areas it is a fight we can win!

This is a great way to give back to the Internet community. I highly encourage anyone with the genuine desire to help and to be a part of a team to volunteer for any of these initiatives. You might just learn something along the way.

Hi All

I volunteered as 1st Responder way back in 2003. It was hectic even back then, but now that I'm learning more about Vista/Longhorn, I'm trying to help with my knowledge thus far of the Vista line of OSes.

CastleCops is my home!

BTW, I may try to update my stickies from back then a tad, but even just reading them from back then tells a person how much & how fast technology is changing. Even as I type this post now, tech is changing, so IMHO, people who read my stickies from back then will want more info on how tech has changed & ask questions on other more up-to-date tech issues, we can only hope?
