I have been having a bit of trouble getting to computercops and it would seem that the DNS lookup of computercops.biz changes depending on which set of root servers are in use.

It would seem that the if the root servers are obtained from http://icann.org/ then things work OK. Where as those from http://www.open-rsc.org/ seem to return the incorrect address.

ICANN resolves to 209.120.178.240 which is correct.

but

ORSC resolves to 199.5.157.11 which is incorrect.

It took me some time to work out what was going on and I was able to deduce the reason by making use of the BIND-PE beta at http://members.shaw.ca/research.internet/ (Which unfortunatly has been withdrawn for the time being do to teh CERT advisory on BIND 9.2.1) Read about it on news://news.grc.com/grc.techtalk.dns.bind_pe_beta (Thanks to NT Canuk & Obiwan there for the help)

So if you had trouble then this might just be the reason.

Ray that is fantastic detective work. I'm going to try and track down the owners of that root server and have them update their database. Most excellent catch and thank you!
