""" E-mail harvesters hit with $1B anti-spam lawsuit
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Project Honey Pot
Jaikumar Vijayan

April 26, 2007 (Computerworld) -- A $1 billion lawsuit filed today promises to open up a new front in the battle against spam: It targets not just spammers, but -- for the first time -- also those responsible for harvesting e-mail addresses on behalf of spammers.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va., is one of the largest of its kind and is being filed on behalf of Project Honey Pot members in over 100 countries. Project Honey Pot is a service provided by Park City, Utah-based anti-spam company Unspam Technologies Inc.

"If you've harvested e-mail addresses or sent spam in the last two years, chances are you're on our radar screen, and we're coming after you," a note posted on the Project Honey Pot Web site said today. """

now make it really hard on them
and fine them so Big a fine
that they can't stand the PAIN!

Very Happy

This is the part I'm wondering about. I remember a conversation the other day, that most of spam is sent through a person's e-mail account without them even knowing it, making bouncing a mean thing. Or something along those lines.

I remember hearing about project Honey Pot a while back, but can't remember what I read. I definitely know the name as it reminded me of Canadian Bacon. Great movie!

The thing I like best about this is the Billion Dollar price tag. Very Happy

Virginia nabbed a guy a few years ago, and Massachusetts has a 35 million dollar judgment against Leo. But it is an international problem, and that amount might get some governments to pay attention. China has worked hard to clean up it's act, next on the list I hope would be Russia.
