Hello all,

As promised, here's another friendly distro, another full step-by-step guide.

http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/install_linuxmint.html

Some highlights, quoted from me article:

... In this article, I'll demonstrate the classic GUI installation, but also a few things more, including guided text installation of an application from an archive, troubleshooting compilation and installation problems, troubleshooting post-installation problems, editing system configuration files, adding new startup programs, tweaking the resolution and mouse settings, all these while using both the GUI and the command line to achieve the desired results, and some basic insight into wireless adapter configuration. It should not be boring ...

Have fun!

Feedback, comments and suggestions are appreciated.

P.S. For those of you who have asked for VMware Tools help / troubleshooting, it's in the article.

Cheers,
Mrk

Mrk,

Thanks, tried out Mint with your guide which was pretty handy, excellent well rounded distro but I am sentimental about PCLOS so went back to it.

Almost the same as an Ubuntu installation, nevertheless, great tutorial. Very Happy

I gave up trying to get wireless to work in Linux for some time... it never works. Although my card is compatible... somehow it doesn't work.

Either that, it works, only without encryption.
