|
|
Hi everyone!
First: excuse me if I'm putting this post in the wrong 'can'- didn't know where exactly to put my question or should I call it cry for help
Here is my question: I downloaded and installed MagicDisc version 2.5.50.0 but it didnt't work. An icon appeared on the right side of the taskbar but that's all that happend. So, I tried to uninstall it but nothing happend. Tried to uninstall it through Add or Remove Programs-doesn't work either. There is an icon in its folder (ProgramFiles/ MagicDisc) called muninst.exe but it seems it corrupted or missing something because it doesn't react to anything.
Can you please tell me how can I remove Magic Disc from my computer?
Tnx
P

petra,
I suggest that you boot into safe mode, then delete the folder in C:\Program Files for MagicDisk. Then boot into regular Windows and download CCleaner from here:
http://www.ccleaner.com/download/
When you install this program, make sure to check the install options carefully, because it will try to install the Yahoo Toolbar, but you can uncheck that option and still install the software. That's the only option to be concerned about. You can choose any of the other options however you wish.
Once it has installed, run first the cleaner tab, and then after doing that, run the issues tab. That should delete the registry entries for MagicDisk, as well as the entry in the Add/Remove CP.
Finally, I suggest you check this article I added to our wiki here:
http://wiki.castlecops.com/User:PCBruiser/Registry_Maintenance
Of particular importance is the use of ERUNT which will give you a daily backup of your registry, which means you can easily restore your registry when you install software that you don't want to its pre-install state. _________________ Don't read? Can't learn!

Go to the program files - usually c/program files/magicdisc and dblclick unwise.exe
That removes it nicely

that happened to me too. i installed magic disk, later on uninstall it. the icons and the folders are gone. but my DVD drive is no loger working. the drive is there, but when i try to burn dvd, using Nero, it does not burn, it asks me to save the DVD image file rather then burning it. i tried to install magic ISO, but that silly program says it cannot find my device. btw, when i left click on any folder, i can still see magic disk options, although there is no folder in my program file etc. please help. i really need to get my dvd working, i need to make backups so that i can format the disk and reinstall everything again. thanks

Please follow these instructions carefully:
Open Notepad by clicking on Start, then Run, and entering the word:
Notepad
in the run box. Next tap <Enter>. Open the Notepad Format Menu and uncheck Word Wrap. Then copy and paste the following code in GREEN to Notepad:
| Code: | Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"upperFilters"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"LowerFilters"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"upperFilters"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"LowerFilters"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"upperFilters"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"LowerFilters"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet004\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"upperFilters"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet004\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"LowerFilters"=- |
Next, Click on the File Menu, then Save As ... and click on the drop down menu to change the file type to All Files.
Next navigate to your desktop, and enter the file name fix.reg, and click Save.
You should now find a new file on your desktop named fix.reg. Right click on fix.reg and select Merge from the context menu. You will get a warning, agree to the merge, and then a message the file has been merged will immediately pop up.
Then reboot. After the reboot, see if you can then access the optical drive properly _________________ Don't read? Can't learn!

this happened to me. if you go to theinstall directory (c:\magi.... there should be an exe called "unwise.exe" that uninstalls the program
if you deleted the folder install it again and then use my steps and that will rid you of the WORST vdrive ever

Reboot and press F8 until you are prompted with a list of options
Select Boot to Last Known Good configuration
If you are lucky your computer will boot and this crappy program will be installed BUT... unable to start
You get a popup from MagicDisk telling you it can not load the drivers, and to reboot
Click OK
Now go locate the install folder where this program was installed to (C:\Program Files\MagicDisk)
Delete the entire MagicDisk folder
Empty your Recycle bin
You may get a popupo about the driver not loaded but you can use your PC again.

Yeh this happened to me too. I kept getting the blue screen of death from mcdbus.sys, the magicdisc driver. Then it wouldn't uninstall from add/remove programs.

|

I had the same problem, and here is what I did:
# started regedit, did full tree search for "mcdbus.sys".
# Removed all the nodes that contained references to that file (I found two)
# Restarted the system.
# There is a complaint that the driver can not be loaded. Which is good, because it's the driver that's a problem
# Just in case, moved %WINDIR%\system32\drivers\mcdbus.sys somewhere else (c:\), and renamed it.
# Executed uninstall (this time it would work, because the driver is not loaded, and unloading the driver is what causes BSOD), no reboot required
# Removed the preserved driver file
