|
|
Some of you may know that Microsoft are about to release the first public beta of Windows Vista Service Pack 1. Some lucky developers have already got their hands on a copy
Please read the following carefully regarding the non-compatibility of Prevx 2.0 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1:
Microsoft Vista Service Pack 1 is not yet available as a public beta. As such, Prevx have not performed any formal regression testing of Prevx 2.0 on this operating system. Once the public beta has been released by Microsoft, we will perform full regression testing and make any changes necessary to release Prevx 2.0 for the new operating system.
Prevx 2.0 will not currently install on the pre-release Windows Vista Service Pack 1. The installation will fail during driver installation. Technically Microsoft Vista Service Pack 1 is not a true service pack. Microsoft have changed the kernel build number from 6000 (Vista RTM) to 6001 (Vista SP1). This means that from Microsoft's engineering team's perspective this is a new operating system (not a service pack) and that they have broken backwards compatibility with Vista RTM (build 6000). From our perspective, we have to assume that they will have broken one or more of our kernel-level hooks, and that this is likely to cause system instability and crashes. At this time we cannot claim support this new operating system.
We are in the process of updating our installers so that they will reject installation on Vista Service Pack 1 rather than failing during driver installation. Once we have regression testing against the public beta we will remove this bar.
Developers who have Prevx 2.0 installed on Vista RTM are advised to remove Prevx 2.0 before upgrading to Vista Service Pack 1 as we cannot guarentee that you system will be stable with Prevx 2.0 installed. Those who may already have upgraded to Vista Service Pack 1 are advised to uninstall Prevx 2.0 immediately.
Developers who choose to continue to run Prevx 2.0 on Vista Service Pack 1 will not receive support.

I read somewhere that the official release of SP1 should be March 2008.
If this is true, i hope that, by then, security software developers will be given the opportunity to make their products work with it.
Best Regards

Looks like i have to make some choices now. I'm running
Vista and just installed SP1 RC1 and my Prevx icon is
flashing, doubleclicking gets me a pop up that says
"The Prevx security agent has not been loaded"
As i see it i can A) Uninstall SP1 RC1 and have a
working version of Prevx, or B) Uninstall Prevx and
look for something to take it's place. I'm not overly
fond of either option as my computer seems to be
running better with SP1 than previously.
Any suggestions ?

Is English your first language? You list New Zealand as your country, but nothing you write makes sense. It's as though you use an online translator? _________________ Windows Vista 32bit Business SP1 | MS ISA 2004 Firewall | Nod32 v2.70.32 | Prevx2 v1.0.2 build 127 | SpywareBlaster v4.1 | Firefox v3.01

127 is now live for all downloads (not available for updates yet).
If you are thinking of upgrading your OS to the new service packs (either XPSP3 or Vista SP1), be sure to update P2 prior to this new 127 build.

How about if the upgrade to build 127 constantly fails & I want to load Vista SP1? Should I uninstall Prevx2 build 123? _________________ Windows Vista 32bit Business SP1 | MS ISA 2004 Firewall | Nod32 v2.70.32 | Prevx2 v1.0.2 build 127 | SpywareBlaster v4.1 | Firefox v3.01
