|
|
Dear readers, the current topic is meant to document and explore, from a variety of viewpoints most if not all of the many "difficulties" even acknowledged by some of the apologists themselves, as existing in what they call the Scriptures. Some of the more fanatical "defenders of the faith" even insist, absurdly, that such books are perfect and inerrant. We shall demonstrate here that this is impossible and irrational.
From the point of view of the non-believer of course, such factual, scientific, historical and mathematical blunders in said religious documents only point to the human, not divine origin of the Bible.
Let us begin with Genesis first.
Thank you. _________________ "For men become civilized, not in proportion to their willingness to believe, but in their readiness to doubt."

Now allow me the honor of addressing the first item at hand, in the Book of Genesis:
Please consider the following contradiction, where a supposedly "perfect" God cannot write a book with a single mind and purpose.
Genesis 1:25-27
"And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let us make man in our image.... So God created man in his own image."
Here, humans were made after animals.

Genesis 2:18-19
And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
Now in this instance, the exact opposite is evident.
It therefore has been demonstrated that "God" is not consistent on even very simple and straightforward issues, and is unable to document his own "Creation" in a consistent manner.
Therefore, God's omniscience and omnipotence and divinity are in question. _________________ "For men become civilized, not in proportion to their willingness to believe, but in their readiness to doubt."

Let it be noted also that this is not only about documentation. We assert that there is no consistent account here, because the entity in question is not actually real, because humans actually wrote these conflicting acconts, as they scavenged earlier mythology to cannibalize theologically and as they bungled the task. _________________ "For men become civilized, not in proportion to their willingness to believe, but in their readiness to doubt."

Are you sure you reading the above extract correctly?
Your other assertion is equally flawed. Based on your extracts you are trying to prove something using your own misinterpretation alas + what makes you think it was God that was documenting anything? Why did he create the humans for?

We covered this at least once before that Q (Klerich ) should know about.
Reading the whole chapter shows that it's really a continuation of the first chapter. When the chapter breaks were added, during the translation process, they probably should have started the second chapter at verse 4 which begins a summation of the processes of creation, moving into a continuation of the narrative with Adam naming the animals, ( who's creation is also summed up, in the process). The crux of the passage is the domination of the animals by man (Adam ) and the special creation of Eve. I think that a part of the reason for the text Q quoted is that it juxtapositions the creation of the animals against the special creation of Eve, which follows. It's a method of highlighting the special nature of Man over the other life forms on the planet. Adam was made in a special creation unlike the mass creation of the animals. Even though Eve came later, this passages reiterates the special nature of humans in Eve's creation.

Hasn't all this been covered by Mark Twain, Robert Ingersoll, Steve
Allen and scads of others. Pardon the expression, but isn't this just mental masturbation? Bertrand Russell also wrote some interesting and even humorous articles. _________________ The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

Yeah, BigFelix, I think that what matters is that WE covered it all before and we REALLY don't need to cover it again, not at Q's behest anyway. Personally, I think this thread is calculated to start arguments. I could be wrong but we've already discussed much more than just this single passage before and Q SHOULD be aware of that. For some reason, he continues to dredge up old topics as if they are new ideas that need attention.

It's not that hard, JoAnn, unless a person insist on making it something that it isn't.

I don't know if it's CC or me but things have been slow lately. Sometimes I try to do something and it hangs forever. I usually leave it and try again later. I guess Later wasn't needed in this instance. (forget to preview and check for updated posts) Sorry.
