I want to register a few Bugs in MailWasher Free 5.1.0:
There is a problem with the sorting of Messages in the "Message Table". Whenever you choose to "Check Mail" or "Process Mail", the sorting method Column you chose -- Sent (Date), From, Subject, etc. -- gets lost. I choose for the Messages to be listed according to the descending Sent Date, but this keeps getting changed to another Column every time I Check or Process Mail.

I've also discovered a Bug in the "Spam Tools Box". If you click "X" to Exit the Box, all the new settings information you enter in any of the fields is LOST! You're forced to use the <TAB> Button until you get past the "Action Box", and then press <ENTER> to quit the Box. This is the only way to avoid losing your new information. You need to add an <OK> Check Box which will save all new settings before exiting.

I also want to suggest a few improvements for the Programme:
In the "Message Filter Rules Box" you need to add a "Size" Field. This is a fundamental Field for Dial-up users. Many people on your Friends List will occasionally send you large Junk, and so a Filter Rule utilizing the "Size" of the Message is a must. Also, you need to provide SCROLLING for the 'list of Rules' when there are more than 5 Rules. Once you get to the 6th Rule, the Box gets LONGER than your Computer Screen!!! You thus can't make more than 6 Rules.

The length of the "Spam Tools Box" needs to be shortened so that it's not longer than the Screen's height above the "Windows Explorer Tab Bar" at the bottom of the Screen.

Lastly, I would suggest that you produce an 'enhanced' version of MailWasher which would be a 'complete' E-Mail Manager Application like Outlook Express and Thunderbird. I personally use Tbird which has a fantastic Message Filter system, but it's so full of Bugs that I want to find something else. The devolved structure at Mozilla unfortunately makes conditions perfect for Bugs to crop up. If you were to produce an enhanced version of MailWasher, Thunderbird would be the product to emulate. You could easily sell such an enhanced MailWasher via Internet Download for US$50-70, and in the stores as a CD-ROM for $70-90. (Outlook Express sells for an unbelievable $110.) I would suggest that you sell MailWasher Pro via Download for $20, and it could sell in stores for $25-27. The price of $37 is rather high given that it is not a complete E-Mail Manager, and its benefits are more tailored for Dial-up users. High Speed users would find a complete E-Mail Manager to be much more useful than the current MailWasher. You should fill the void left by dissatisfied Thunderbird users! The present MailWasher Pro is definitely worth purchasing, but you do need to fix the Bugs I mentioned above first. I hope you can fix them.

Sincerely,
Mr. Terry Mester

MW FREE 5.1.0 is VERY old.

Be that as it may, moved to Product Suggestion forum.

Why not update to the latest version and see if the bugs are still there. I doubt anyone is going to spend time looking at a report on a product that has been replaced for so long. I know I quit reading when I saw the version number.

Hi Stan,
You should have kept reading my above Post because I also offered some good improvements for the MailWasher software. I actually just downloaded that old Version 5 a couple days ago thanks to PC World Magazine who provided the following Link:
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,20000-order,1-page,1-c,alldownloads/description.html.
They need to remove this Page from their Server. That said and done, I've now installed Version 6.1. The sorting problem is solved, but the problem with the Spam Tools Box is still there and the new Box is way too big for the Computer Screen! Those Window Boxes need to fit the Screen.

I've also discovered new problems. When you click the "Process Mail" Button it performs the same task as the "Mail Program" Button, and connects me to Thunderbird. Hasn't anyone else noticed this??? Also, I'm having a new problem with the "Display Options" Box which won't save any changes, but returns with an Error Box stating: "A component named CrippleBannerFrame already exists". It leaves the programme hanging -- requiring you to exit. The installation programme for V6 should have accommodated the existing V5. Does anyone know what the "CrippleBannerFrame" is, and what do I do to solve this problem?

I must say that I'm flabberghasted that the V6 downloaded File (7.6M) is 120% LARGER than V5 (3.4M)!!! This large a File size is the reason for all of the problems with Mozilla and with the Microsoft Windows Operating System. Such a large File size also SLOWS the whole Computer down! LINUX for example is compact, and thus avoids the endless Bugs of Microsoft! I would recommend to Firetrust to simplify and compact MailWasher using one or two highly qualified computer programmers. Personally, I don't think it's wise for software programmes to use the Windows Registry. It's better to keep software separate from the Windows OS by using its own Data File which would prevent problems resulting from intertwining the programme with the Windows OS. Keep a software programme simple! I definitely would not recommend giving out MailWasher for free except for a month-long trial period, but you also cannot expect people to pay money for it when it is afflicted with Bugs.
