|
|
Hi !
I recently purchased the OUTPOST Pro Security Suite and installed it on my computer.
Before, I had Outpost Firewall, and used AVG Free Edition as a anti-virus protection.
After installing Outpost Pro SS, I notice that, in the "AntiMalware settings", it is written "turned off to provide compatibility with 3th party software". I suppose that is because I did not change the settings of my AVG Free Edition.
Now, I would like Outpost Pro SS to have priority over AVG Free, and to keep AVG as an on-demand alternative scanner only.
How can I change my settings to obtain this ?
Looking forward to your help,
Rafael

Because of the way both AVG Free and Outpost Security Suite Pro (OSS) install you will need to uninstall both programs. Then install AVG Free followed my OSS.
I testing this out using OSS Version 6.0.2284.253.0485 and AVG Free 7.5 on my test XP Pro SP2 system. This is what I did.
Removed AVG Free, skip the reboot now, then removed OSS and then reboot.
Installed AVG Free, selected Custom Install. On the Component Selection window unchecked Resident Shield and E-mail Scanner. Continue the install of AVG Free.
At the First Run part of the AVG Free installation. Skipped AVG Free Update, at Daily Scanning; unchecked "Enable Scheduled Daily Scan", skipped the Virus Scan, skipped AVG Free Registration, then clicked Continue...
Closed the Test Center. (The AVG icon will be gray, nothing to worry about will fix later.)
From Start, Run, typed in services.msc. Located AVG7 Alert Manger Server and Disabled the service. (Double click on it. Set Startup Type to Disabled.) (You don't have to stop it by the way.)
Restarted the computer.
After boot up was complete, installed OSS.
After the OSS install rebooted. When reboot finished, double clicked on the AVG Free icon in the Notification Area.
In the AVG Free Control Center selected Resident Shield, clicked properties. On the General tab checked "Ignore faulty condition of the component". (If desired uncheck "Display component".) Did the same for E-mail Scanner.
Next selected Update Manager and clicked update. I had to repeat this four times to get all updates.
Finished.

Thanks for your reply !
i have now uninstalled both OSS and AVG AV and AS, and reinstalled OSS. The anti-malware protection of OSS is now functional.
Later, I will download another (maybe AVG) AV and AS scanner, and install it to be my second source.
So far, I'm quite happy with OSS, it is really easy to install and do the settings. Also good online ad-protection.
C U,
Rafael
