ahoier, you're right that the traversal page isn't loading. However, I appear to be getting the nameserver error before the traversal page even attempts to load. So the error message pops up on the first DNSstuff or WHOIS page, just after that first page flickers. The url address in Explorer's address window is still showing as that first page, and the first page is what stays displayed on screen.
I'll try to post that screen shot later.

DNSstuff will block IPs that make a lot of requests to prevent automated lookups. Could someone sharing your IP address be doing something?

I'll investigate so won't post the screenshot for now.

The screenshot still couldn't hurt....
I'd think if DNSStuff were blocking IPs due to excessive use, they would give some sort of warning stating such...?
I know before they "went commercial" they would display logs of "heavy offenders" and such.

You are using IE7.
Do you have support for tabbed windows in the IE7 browser?
eg if you open the browser, and press Ctrl-T does it open a new tabbed browser window? If so, is the cursor sitting in the address bar ready for you to key in a new site URL?

All the DNS pages are opening up nicely now, but I still get the partially formed emails; usually four blank emails to the correct addressees with blank subject line, but occasionally with parts of the report in the subject line. |
(This sub-thread is about my home set-up; I'll be in touch about those work machines next time I'm there)
Interesting: I downloaded the latest version & I still get all DNS pages, then the confirmation pop-ups about sending emails, then All Name Servers Done [or similar, can't remember the actual message], but now no actual email messages are composed despite Thunderbird being open. However, I see that fully composed messages are sitting in the Archive folder, so I use those as a basis for my emails. Not a problem, but thought I should mention it.

Make sure when you open Complainterator, the box that says "suppress email" isn't checked. It's a feature, not a bug

Allelujah! All systems go!
Ok, Complainterator is now working perfectly on three workstations. As trobbins suggested^^, I think the Xin Net whois server was down, as the XP/IE7 set-up is fully functional despite no changes. tembow, it does indeed support tabbed browsing.
I had a brainwave with the Windows 2000/IE6 one, since IE6 doesn't support tabbed browsing; I switched it to Firefox/Thunderbird & now it works fine. The only issue was to set those as the default applications in Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs|Set Program Access & Defaults, not just within the programs themselves. This way the mailto protocol works in the url bar and Complainterator can compose its messages correctly.
Similarly on my home PC I converted to Firefox (already had Thunderbird) and the two seem to work together seamlessly - no more partially composed emails. Still some entirely blank ones, but I think there's another reason behind that.
