When I run EasyCleaner programs to delete 'unnecessary files' and my 'computer history' I seem to lose my registration key - and have to reenter it. I guess there is some file that is "necessary". Can anyone help, please?

Possible aside - I am running IE7 on Vista 64 Bit (see an earlier posting), but I have the new Sitehound installed and it is only the registration key that loses itself, not my Sitehound ID.

Are you running the FF version of SiteHound as well, or only IE ?

I assume too this is SiteHound 2.0 and not 1.5 ?

Thanks
Chris

Hello, Chris, and thanks for taking an interest.

Yes, version 2.0 and IE only.

Did you have version 1.5 installed on the machine, and if so, were you sure to uninstall it first before installing the new version ?

What I find odd in all of this, is that the information (ID and Registration) is stored in the same file.

You could also naviagte to C:\Program Files\Firetrust\SiteHound and look for config.dat, if you see this file in this location, then delete it

Thanks

Sorry for the reply delay - been away for the weekend.

I did have 1.5 and I am confident I uninstalled it, although I wouldn't pretend to remember exactly. I do think I recall the 2.0 installer saying it needed uninstalling. Anyway, I cannot see any trace of 1.5 on my computer.

I have looked in the Sitehound file (which, with Vista, is within my 'Program Files (x86)' folder - but no config.dat file.

I could try removing temp files and the like one by one until I find something that triggers a registration key delete, or would you suggest I uninstall and reinstall? That sounds the easier option.

Yeah, try that, the file where this is stored is in

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SiteHound

So after uninstalling, check this folder and delete the config.dat
You can keep the block URLs file if you like, it matters not.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled, run my various utility programs and shut down and restarted a number of times. All now seems well. What the problem was will doubtless remain one of those computer mysteries, but many thanks Chris for the guidance. It really does make a difference to amateurs like me to feel supported in this way.
