Ok just got symantec client security... Anyways the install went fine and everything appeared to be working. The firewall works but the av software won't start a scan.

[Symantec Antivirus 10]
When I try to run a quick scan or full scan with the anti virus I get the following error msg "Could not start scan. Scan engine returned error 0x2"

NE help appreciated thx - Aaron

Hi Aaron,

Is there additional error code? I mean, 0x20000058 or 0x20000046?
Check this page http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/529c2f9adcf33a1088256e22005026f1/5bfc1a720f52435988256fb9007a3a9e?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam for possible solution.

Hmmm no other error codes.... It's okay tho just got zone pro much happier although it is messed up that a $350 product won't work and the error code doesn't have any solutions. Thx for trying neways. I'm gonna try it out server mode at work and see if it works on a different machine. I'll respond if it doesn't work again.

"Could not start scan. Scan engine returned error 0x2."

This is really annoying.

Is there any help that is more recently come to light on this problem?

Hi,

Try to run the Symantec Assistant https://www-secure.symantec.com/techsupp/asa/index.jsp?ref=consumertsus that will scan your Symantec products for damaged files and might offer you a fix.

You can also try the solution in http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/9d94c8571a91ba4788256bf3007f62b5/9f3bb83b13e1be7e88256a220026a5d5?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam

W2K server: Restarting the server solved the problem for me. I had my admin account locked out for no reason immediately before this problem occurred. Perhaps that's a clue.

1. Right click on 'My Computer' and select 'Manage.'
2. Select Services and Applications->Services.
3. Right click Symantec Antivirus (in the services list) and select
'Stop.'
4. After the service stops, right click Symantec Antivirus again and
select 'Start.'

I`ve experienced the same problem: "symantec antivirus could not start scan. Scan engine returned error 0x2".
Re-installing SAV didn`t fix the problem. SAV started to work after going to Control Panel--> Add or remove programs--> Select Symantec --> Change --> Repair.
Hope this helps you!!
