I use Zone Alarm Security Suite 6.1.744.001

The AV component updates both automatically and manually with no problem.

However, when updating the AS, the "anti-spyware update in progress" reading continues in "checking" mode for a minute or so. Then I get the reading: "Update complete".

No error messages.

However, my last AS update was : April 4

The DAT File version remains at: 01.20084.3615
which is well below the version now available.

The AS Engine version is:5.0.188.0

Why does my AV update smoothly and my AS does not?

What is the most direct way to remedy this?

But there is no folder named :UPDATES in Zone Alarm Security Suite 6.1.744.001 even after I allow the PC to show Hidden Files and Folders as well as System Files. This might only exist in later ZASS versions. So I can't follow the instructions below from that site you posted. There is some zip file there zlrsreupd.zip, as well as a Spyware DAT file with the April 4 date to it.
Please advise further.

For version6 you can try lowering the program control 1 step lower than what it is now, the try to do a manual update. After, raise the program control back to where it was.

Tried it. Didnt work.

Still at April 4 definitions. DAT file version: 3615, but no error message as manual update completes successfully.

The reason for this, is there should be an update folder even in the version you have. With it missing, there is a chance that you had an install problem, even if it does work correctly. Doing the uninstall and reinstall per these instructions should fix the problem, and allow you to update the AS and AV scanners.
