Got attacked yesterday. Symantec found virus such as infostealer, infostealer.gampass and backdoor.bifrose. Virus has also attempted to disable my ad-aware 2007 service. Updated symantec antivirus, ad-aware and spybot, disabled system restore then did a thorough scanning in safe mode. Right now, my anti virus is not working properly. (unable to start scanning in normal mode, only in safe mode) Ad-aware is running properly now.

My auto protect also detect another backdoor.bifrose today even though i have cleaned the system and no more virus was found. Virus files are dropped into my temp folder every now and then: C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\PK2A.tmp

Downloaded hijackthis and are suspecting some of the entries at O2 BHO. E.g. O2 - BHO: yxcsbhlp.dll - {25671234-7890-ABCD-CDEF-567801237652} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\yxcsbhlp.dll

Please help me out, here's my hijackthis logs:

Sorry for the delay

1.
We Need to temporarily disable SpyBotS&D Tea timer so it doesn't interfere with our fix

    1) Run Spybot-S&D
    2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
    3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
    4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
    5) Restart your computer.

2. Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Fix Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

1. We are going to run Vundofix again, but change the instructions slightly.

Open Notepad (Not Wordpad). Copy and paste the following into NotePad (not the word Code)

Code:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpwdaapi.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yxcsbhlp.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\zycbbime.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mndhbdwd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ypcqbhlp.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ptjhchlp.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\zywmcime.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpmycapi.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\oohxbbyt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\zptlbsys.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yzztdmsn.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\zxmsawin.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ypdjdbmp.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\zxptdjpg.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msnlive.exe

  • Click File ->> Save As, and type in vundofix.vft (exactly as shown)
  • Under Save as type Select "All Files" and Save it to your Desktop
  • Double Click Vundofix.exe to run the program.
  • Next drag and drop the vundofix.vft file you made into the white window of Vundofix
  • The list of files should appear in the window
  • Right click in the open window and Select "Select all" (or manualy add check marks) in the boxes preceeeding the file names.
  • With the boxes all checked Select "Fix Vundo" Do Not Select "Scan for Vundo"
  • You will receive a prompt asking "Are you sure you want to remove these files?", click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • The vundofix.vtf file you made will be gone, this is normal.

Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting

When fix vundo is clicked, the files can't be removed and it prompts to run on reboot. When rebooted, vundo is executed automatically. I drag the vft into the window and fix vundo again. But the files still can't be removed.

Tried in safe mode, it still says files can't be removed and prompts for reboot, except that a system shutdown box appears before it prompts for reboot.

Running HijackThis still shows the BHOs.
Can I use killbox.exe?

1. Running Vundofix will not remove the BHO's only the files

    2) Rt Click->>Extract all->.Extract it to your Desktop
    3) Double Click Killbox.exe to run it
4)Select "Delete on Reboot", and then select "All files".

      C:\WINDOWS\system32\yxcsbhlp.dll
      C:\WINDOWS\system32\zycbbime.dll
      C:\WINDOWS\system32\mndhbdwd.dll
      C:\WINDOWS\system32\ypcqbhlp.dll
      C:\WINDOWS\system32\ptjhchlp.dll
      C:\WINDOWS\system32\zywmcime.dll
      C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpmycapi.dll
      C:\WINDOWS\system32\oohxbbyt.dll
      C:\WINDOWS\system32\zptlbsys.dll
      C:\WINDOWS\system32\yzztdmsn.dll

Done. Now the symantec anti virus can do scanning properly. Previously, scanning will simply froze there.
