for the last two days, sites that require sign in won't work. ie Hotmail. techsupportforum.com I can get into msn but not these. I just removed something called Magic Partition by Quest? Not sure how it was installed -likely happened automatically. Maybe this messed me up.

Running Windows XP. Have AVG for protection- ran that and AVG anti-virus as well as spyblaster but came up empty. What can I do? Crying or Very sad

Also, the thing you removed sounds very suspiciously like PowerQuest's Partition Magic - which is now owned by Symantec....

Yes, it was Power Quest Magic Partition. I didn't install it so I don't know how it got onto my computer. Any idea how to fix this problem. Seems other things are resolved- looks like it was an ISP problem since a friend had the same issues. But there are sites I cannot sign on to. I try to log in and end up stuck at the home page. Any ideas?

What happened when you registered the .dll files?

Are you using a proxy?

Check out the link I posted above - http://www.imzers.com/msn/solve/error-code-80048820

Also, check if you are using a Proxy:

In Internet Explorer 7, go to Tools, Internet Options, Connections tab. Click the Settings button and see if 'Use a proxy server for this connection' is checked. If so, uncheck it and click OK.

Then click the LAN Settings button and see if 'Use a proxy server for your LAN' is checked. If so, uncheck it and click OK.

Let me know if you use a different browser and can't find the proxy settings.

Sometimes a proxy will cause this type of problem.

Not using proxy settings. And the problem only appeared 2 days ago- never had it before and have changed nothing in settings.

PowerQuests' Partition Magic was installed *by someone* at some time - perhaps the last person who attempted to repair your computer. However, it will have nothing to do with your ability to surf (and not surf) top different sites.

As for you not having changed settings, well, that doesn't mean a whole lot - if you are running a standard configuration of protection software, i.e. firewalls, antimalware, antispyware, antivirus, etc, and any of those programs automatically update themselves, then they, acting as a intermediate between your PC and the Internet, could very easily have changed something behind the scenes that you do not know about.

When you are trying to log on to these sites, does it take you back to your home page after logging in, or after loading the site?

I would recommend that you first try clearing out your cache files and cookies, possibly along with your history, and see if it is simply a problem with a corrupt cache.

What browser and version are you using to access these sites? What are the sites (do not provide your login information, just the actual site address)?
