When I click on a link within CastleCops I find the gold on black logo. Fine. But at times I receive a # on a white background. And I have also seen a clock with a quadrant (9-12) greyed out. What is the meaning of these logos?

OK, let's put it this way. Maybe from SiteHound which I recently downloaded, maybe from something else. But when I click on any link, the site's logo in miniature appears. But also, at times, the pound sign and a clock with the upper-left quadrant greyed out. Any ideas as to what these last two might signify?

Based on the symptoms you report, the problem isn't limited to CastleCops. I've moved this to the Sitehound forum on the assumption it has something to do with that installation.

Discussion becomes moot as updating to AVG 8 gives me Safe Search; and I've uninstalled SiteHound.

I hope you don't mean the free version?

Quote:
AVG Free only includes the Safe Search protection which provides you with advice on search results. It does not protect against infected pages. Only AVG paid versions contain the Safe Surf technology.

Quote:
AVG Free does not contain the new Safe Downloads & Instant Messaging protection (Web Shield technology) so it does not screen your downloads and communication for viruses and spyware

.... I'd still personally trust SH more than I trust ANY AVG product ... (but thats just me Wink).

Get ready to put back of hand to forehead!

I don't partake of Instant Messaging; I've stopped visiting LatvianVirgins.com and downloading from them; I was happy with McAfee's SiteAdvisor and its warnings; I wasn't happy with the warnings and unwanted extras that SiteHound provided; I use my laptop for extremely limited purposes; and, until further notice, AVG's warnings seem to be doing the job. But that's just me.

Thank you for sharing.

hehe Wink

I actually used to use SiteAdvisor myself, and indeed, used to use AVG AntiSpyware, until SA decided to produce stupidly OTT false positives, and information/requests for corrections went (and continue to go) ignored.

Alas since AVGAS is being discontinued, it's of no use to me as I refuse to use the suite (AVG's AV detections have never been as good as Avast or AntiVir - both also provide "free" versions).

Instead for the AS I use Malwarebytes and Spybot S&D, for the AV I use AntiVir (until I get the cash for a licence for NOD32 anyway), which unlike Avast, doesn't provide e-mail etc protection, but thats fine with me as I don't need it (check them manually anyway).

OOI, what warnings and unwanted extras were you getting from SH?

/edit

Third attempt at posting this Sad ....... CC seems to be having some major server issues ....

AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0's protection is nearly as good as that of the top for-pay antivirus and antispyware products. Scanning of search links for dangerous pages is an added bonus. Protects against exploits and drive-by downloads. Cleanup leaves behind tons of nonactive file and Registry traces.
