That depends on each user's situation. I personally use Acronis True Image to make an image copy of all my partitions to a second HD.

Depends on the files you need backed up. My mom has a 4G flash thumb drive that I use to back up all her files. _________________ Who is this General Fault and why is he trying to read my HDD?

How large is your HD, and how much space do you have available on it? It sounds like you're pushing for an external HD in the near future if you're that low on space.... _________________

If you have another computer, you can start sending the files to the other one. When done with the installing, just transfer back. _________________ Dragon

If those hard drives are not mission critical (IOW, if you don't mindformatting them) install them in your current computer, format them, then make your backup to them....since you ahve access to the drives, that would be the cheapest solution by far.... _________________

Are you currently running Vista? f So, partition Magic is not going to play nicely.
However, Vista *by it self* can shrink existing partitions and make new ones.... _________________

With you having a 250 GB HD you should have no issues at all with XP (emphasis on should). If it is giving you a fit, I'd recommend going with the plan as described above _________________
