I'm running XP home edition, SP2.

I know how to set permissions for files/folders/partitions in XP home but I'm not sure how to do it correctly for what I want to do as far as restricting the GUEST account.

I want to secure certain folders (plus an entire partition) from access by the GUEST account. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

I don't see that account itself, or any group with just that account in it, in order to set permissions just for GUEST (I tried some experimenting last night and to restrict GUEST I also had to restrict myself and the admin account too???)

THANKS for any clues.

Whoa, I figured it out meself! (I think)

Although I can't explain it exactly off top of my head because I did not write it all down (but I know enough know to be able to find it again), I was able to find that you can add userID names or groups of userids that you don't already see in the permissions list by doing something like Add/Advanced/Find which then shows you a list of "objects" that contain many many IDs including GUEST or a group called GUESTS that the GUEST ID is a member of.

From there I was able to add the GUESTS group to the folder permissions list and apply the permissions that I wanted to that account/group, then testing things and I see it does what I want without disrupting my own account.

I screwed up doing this last night because I tried to change folder permissions for the only accounts that were listed that appeared to be nonadmin, which were "everyone" and "users", but that affected my own account (& the admin too). I knew there had to be a way to do what I wanted but oddly I've been unable to find ANYTHING that explained this clearly on 'net. I had to experiment, which is a dangerous thing to do with permissions...hopes this helps anyone else pondering the same thing.
