I can't figure out what my kids did to my computer, but I'm getting the message: error locating operating system.

Not sure where to begin to fix this, if that's possible. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a floppy drive? Is there a floppy in the drive?

Can you describe exactly what this message looks like, or, better yet, what exactly happens when you power on the computer?

I apologize for the numerous questions, but it could be something simple, as many computers were prone to give a message *similar* when the hard drive could not be found - however, it could also be a false message being purported by Malware.

No floppy drive available. When I boot the computer, the screen is black and the message reads: error locating operating system.

I've re-booted a few times, same message comes back.

Thanks for helping me w/ this issue.

OK, can you describe in detail what you see when you first turn on the computer? If it helps any, turn everything off for 5 minutes. Than power on your *monitor* - give it about 3 seconds and then turn on your computer - the monitor should now be warmed up to display all the stuff that happens in the very beginning.

Can you boot into safemode? Try "Last Known Good Configuration".

Do you have your OS install discs or an image backup?

I'll try to get into safe mode. I have the disk somewhere in the house, but can't seem to locate it at this time. Any other suggestions??
