Thanks for the reply and feedback on this. We are very interested in working with you to determine what caused the issue as this would help us to improve the program.
Would you be willing to test the current Public Beta version? There are some changes made in the Beta that might also address this on your system but we need verification to determine whether this is related to corrections added for Vista or something completely new.
Regardless of your answer, thank you for your reports.
Mike
The machine this happened on is not mine. The person who owns it does not want to mess around now that we have it back to where it was plus updated to SP3.
I am not into beta testing. In fact I wait a good period of time after a stable final release to see if there are any issues with it before I update to it. I am interested to know what happened though. I think it's a great program and have used Returnil to test out many programs before I decide to install them .
I have been thinking about what happened and the steps I took and I remember that I left a part out. When I uninstalled Returnil I used the uninstall option in the Returnil start menu entry. What I also did and forgot to mention was after the uninstall finished I ran Zsoft Uninstaller http://www.zsoft.dk/index/software_details/4 Basically what this does is takes a snap shot of your entire system before you install a program than you install the program you want and run Zsoft again and it takes another snap shot of the system. It compares the before and after and creates a uninstall log. Everything that was added when you installed the program or deleted will be in this log. When you want to uninstall the program this will clean all traces of it. I used Zsoft to track the install of Returnil. I have used it literally hundreds of times on multiple machines and never had an issue. I ran it after I uninstalled Returnil to clean up any left overs and rebooted with no problems at all. Than I installed the newest Returnil and rebooted again as required and again no problem. Machine booted up fine. The problem I noticed was Session Lock was grayed out as I mentioned. The next reboot was when the problems started.
I don't think Zsoft had anything to do with it because I have never had a problem with it and have not heard of anybody else either. Also there where two problem free reboots after I used it but I think you should have all the info you can get to figure this out. I just instinctively use Zsoft after every uninstall now and it's just normal procedure for me so I didn't think anything of it when I first posted.
Hi, I am just posting here as to subscribe to this topic.
Would like to see what returnil testing if any reveals on this topic/thread, though I understand the member who had the situation can not do the testing.
Can Returnil post if comes up with any idea why this occurred, with the now latest post giving more info on exact steps which occurred?
I know may not be resolution but just am tracking this thread in case there is more on this.
