Absolutely Claire. Thumbs Up I have that page bookmarked. As I read the list the first time, I saw some programs that I had actually downloaded before. Crying or Very sad

I'll be sure to check out that site Mariner. The list also comes in handy as I am in Boot Camp over at SWI.

Luckily I got rid of everything almost immediately after downloading, as I discovered Ad-Aware!
My cousin also had me download SpyBot S&D and HijackThis, about a couple weeks after getting Ad-Aware.

This was about 2-3 months ago, though, now I have all the right programs (or should I say programs free of spy/adware). Thanks to security forums like this, I'm more aware of what I put on my system.

The list claire gave you is updated regularly. Keep checking, it's now easier to push something as a 'cleaner' or whatever than it is to use certain other means. Makes instant money, too. And....if it costs a lot, then it must be good, right? No Sadly not......

Absolutely. Your mind sometimes tells you that if you have to pay for it, it's probably worth it, but if it's free, it's most likely junk. But it really isn't so, I mean some programs you do have to pay for, & don't include all the junk. And some things that are freeware, are pretty much the best you can get nowadays. I'm really grateful for my HijackThis, Ad-Aware, & SpyBot S&D (oh, and Spyware Guard, Spyware Blaster, & IE-SPYAD). They make life so much easier. Smile
Oh, and I can't forget all the HijackThis log decipherers in the security forums that I visit. Thumbs Up
I can't wait to join the fight against spyware (by helping out), I'm getting there! I have a renewed appreciation for what you guys do & for the time you devote here. Yes

(I just had to edit to say sorry if my post seems cheesy, but I really do mean it! I was reading it & thinking 'man, what a suck up'!) Wink

Odd, my fav program is listed there, SpyAssassin. Some computers here at work were all messed up cause the employees were downloaded crap like smillies all day long. I was able to install the program on our 4 comps. and it cleaned them up great.

I looked up SpyAssasin and it looks like it made the list based on two factors:

1) It uses domains which are obviously intended to confuse people who are trying to find AdAware. This is a deceptive exploit.

2) Poor scan reporting, which means that it gave either no information or incomplete information about what it found and subsequently removed.

Well then maybe the list is inaccurate. Using a certain domain doesn't mean that your product doesn't work. You get what you pay for, it did a great job on my computer, and I was actually surprised to read negative feedback about it. In my opinion it did a better job than "those" free programs...

Hi Clark,

Welcome to CC. We don't make the list, we just made it available for people. You are welcome to do a review on SpyAssassin or any other product here. CastleCops Link/reviews-new.html
