I've just recently set up a dual-boot setup. One being Fedora Core 2 and the other WinXP Pro. Naturally, I've got a few questions...
1. I'm having trouble booting into Windows. I read this thread, /t69569-Dual_Boot_XP_and_Fedora.html and I'm still no smarter on this issue. I don't know where to use sfdisk, where to get it or when to use it... I would have posted this in the other thread but I've got a few other questions as well.
2. When I downloaded Firefox for Linux, it came in a .tar.gz file. I have extraced it but there is no executable or anything... What do I do with this sucker?
3. What do I point Fedora to when it asks me what I want to associate with .RPM files?
4. When I go to Gaim's website and try to download the newest version 0.82, it tells me to look in the Fedora mirrors list. I've found something in .RPM format entitled "gaim-0.71-2.i386.rpm". I can't seem to find 0.82 on any of those mirrors... Have they not released it for Fedora yet?
I'm on #fedora on Freenode but getting help in there is like asking for God to make Microsoft a respectable company - it ain't gonna happen.

What do I do with this sucker? | Executables in Linux do not have an exe extension as in MS Windows. To install firefox start console and type 'yum install firefox'. It will display the filename and then it will display a 'y/n' input request, type 'y' and that should install firefox. For more detail goto

P.S: Before you do this try leewbradley's suggestion and see what that does for you. _________________ The world owes us nothing but a grave.

Thank you for the help... The only problem is yum is for dealing with RPM packages and Firefox just comes in a tarball.
Does Fedora have anything like YaST for installing things?
Also, I should mention that explaining everything as equivelants to Windows would make it nice and easy for me to figure out (like "Doing this in Linux is just like doing that in Windows").

I figured out how to get the install, just click on the firefox-installer.sh... But how can I get it to register properly? Like I want it to put an entry in the Internet folder in the Start Menu (or whatever it's called on Linux :S ). Also, there was no RPM inside that I know of...
Also, I'm trying to get TeamSpeak (www.goteamspeak.com) to install but the file setup.sh that the readme tells me to open doesn't do anything...

Lots of basic questions that I can't answer, haven't used RedHat/Fedora since they dumped desktop users.
You should have some good luck at these sites
http://www.linux-howto.com/
http://linux-newbie.sunsite.dk/index.html
http://www.linuxforum.com/
http://www.linuxquestions.org/
Linux isn't much like windows as there are a bunch of different parts of it from different developers, some parts overlap like the KDE and Gnome desktops so the way to do something depends on where you are and what you have chosen for your setup.
tar is a linux form of pkunzip, for the command line.
rpm is the format and name of the Red Hat Package Manager, another command line tool.
When you are told to run a file and you want to see what it is doing don't click it in a graphical environment, rather open a shell (dos like) window and execute it there. Depending on your system setup you might have to put ./ ahead of the name to get it to run. That will show you the messages it generates when it runs rather than discarding them as the graphical shells tend to do.
Remember when asking a question to provide the following information so folks can get you precise answers without a lot of extra questions being asked back and forth.
Distribution = Fedora
Version = 9.2?
Desktop = KDE, Gnome
Program in question = Firefox
Program version = 0.9.3
Hope this gets you started, sorry I couldn't give you answers instead of places to look.
