D'oh! Too many acronyms. I was confusing DC with UD, which of couse is yet another DC protein folding program.

It's here!
/fah/index.php
Great work Paul.
For those of you familiar with the eoc stat pages I link to, CastleCops now has a brand new module to bring you our team's stats in the same fashion. For those of you who have previously seen the new module, the bug with miscoloured rows has been fixed. The system is only in it's second day, so it will take a week to flesh out all the weekly stats.
This is complete with appropriate graphs and seperate pages for each member!
Click on: View team members to see the whole team. Click on a team member to view their page! Remember to add it to your Favorites and FavForums
Please note: The daily average is script based on the past month of stats the program collects and adds to it's database here, so this will not be a true average until at least one month goes by.
At this time, we would like to make the following acknowlegements.
Our 1st is to Paul for taking the time to incorporate this into the site and to Paul and Robin for being a great team.
Thanks to the F@H Team, text files for the top 2000 teams are now available. Because of that the scripts will work for those teams, no longer just the top 1000.
One of the conditions of the use of the scripts and/or program generating these pages is this, which I repeat here:
Coolrunr’s Folding @ Home stats system. V2.2
All code by Andrew Draut unless otherwise noted.
You are welcome to use the code, but please put credit where it is due as I have.
This code is provided as is with no support or guarantees. If you notice a problem e-mail (at the address provided by following the link) along with the fix if you have one, or post here:
http://forum.folding-community.org/viewtopic.php?t=7073.

Your local PC expert could easily charge upwards of $60 to fix your PC problems.
The volunteers @ Castle Cops helped you do it for $0.
You can show you appreciation and/or support by following one of the following links; 1. A Premium Membership (It's also a great gift idea);2. A small donation; 3.Supporting our F@H Team!

Posted: Wed Dec 01, 2004 12:57 am Post subject: Gromacs FAQ |
|
|
Gromacs FAQ page.
- 3.) If it's faster, will the participants get more points? Sorry, the points in the stats will still be benchmarked by the CPU time, so your stats won't be affected either.
- 4.) How can Gromacs be that much faster? Gromacs is built for speed. Everything about it has been optimized to be the very fastest MD code on the planet. For example, it uses the SSE instructions on Pentiums to get a 3x speed increase. 3D-Now! is supported on AMD chips. Altivec is supported on Macs. The inner loops are handcoded in assembly. It has algorithms creatively designed for speed. It's an amazing feat. For us to include all of these optimizations into our current scientific code did not seem a judicious use of our programming resources (why reinvent the wheel?) and we instead decided to collaborate with the Gromacs team.
- 13.)Can I turn off SSE/3D-Now!? It causes problems for my system -- it runs too hot or my K6 doesn't have the full 3D-Now you use. The default config will be for SSE to be on. In the new client, you will be able to manually turn off SSE in the new client G's putting out. The Gro core will do some internal tests to see if SSE is a problem. If these tests indicate that it is, then the Gro core will turn off SSE itself (although one will be able to try to force SSE manually).
- 14.) My machine doesn't have SSE or 3D-Now (eg Pentium II, Celeron, etc). Is that a problem? Will I be at a disadvantage? If the Gro core doesn't detect SSE, it won't even try to use it (that was in from the beginning). Our Linux cluster is mostly PII's and that ran fine. We'll continue to benchmark the deadline and credits on our 500 MHz Celeron's (w/o SSE). If you have SSE, you'll get the work done faster (no surprise there), but the deadlines will be based on a non-SSE CPU. Faster machines will do more WUs (as is the law of nature in d.c.), but slow machines won't be out of the running.

That is cool. Need more of that. It reminds me of the study drug I took that strips the Plaque out of your vascular system to prevent future Heart attacks!

They've know some of these things for a few years. I followed the link at the bottom of the article - there's a wealth of information posted there.

FOLDING@HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS
It's that time of the year again! Hauling out the decorations from the attic or basement; buying or even cutting your own tree; last minute shopping, and maybe one last turkey in the oven!
Meanwhile, millions of computers worldwide are running complex computations in the background.
There's office parties on the agenda, dreams of sugar-plums dancing in heads, and dreams of a White Christmas for some; it's the time of year we call the Season Of Giving.
Thousands of computers have made a connection to a central location and received further work.
A growing number of Castle Cops members' computers are participating in this running of complex computations and connecting to servers, but this is not the action of a Hijack in progress. These members have found a way to continue giving past December and January. In fact they do it all the time, sometimes twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week! They have all joined the F@H Team.
In six short months, the team has completed over Five Thousand Work Units, accumulating over Five Hundred Thousand Points. Less than Two Hundred Fifty teams can say that. Many of the top One Hundred teams have ten times as many members. One of the things that makes this team unique is the high level of active participants, and the fact that those active participants average a little over two computers doing work.
What is even more exciting is knowing that what we do is starting to make a difference. Dog Genome Findings May Benefit Human Health was one of the recent items to make news, but the last one was even more exciting; The war against cancer focuses on a key gene
In addition, within the past three months Stanford University, which runs the Folding program under the direction of Vijay Pande had this news about the program.
9/9/2004 FAH breaks the 1,000,000 CPU and 100 TFLOP barrier
We've pased the 1,000,000 total CPU mark. See the OS stats.
referenced: http://folding.stanford.edu/news.html
Client statistics by OS
| OS Type | Current TFLOPS | Active CPUs | Total CPUs
| | Windows | 172.676 | 143897 | 936088
| | Mac OS X | 7.004 | 8755 | 65485
| | Linux | 12.257 | 14409 | 103656
| | Other | 0.0 | 0 | 0
| | Total | 191.937 | 167061 | 1105229 |
Total number of donators = 397824

Active CPUS have returned WUs within 50 days.
TFLOPS is actual flops from MD, not the peak values from CPU specs.
We also have included new stats on the number of TeraFlops (Trillion FLoating point Per Second) done by FAH. At the moment, FAH is one of the most powerful (if not the most powerful) supercomputer in the world (most supercomputers are at the single TFLOP level and FAH can do ~200 TFLOPS). How can we reach this level? Lots of CPUs (over 150,000) and very highly optimized code using CPUs to their fullest (eg SSE).

I will have a look at it tomorrow with a fresh mind. It looks like a good improvement for the science.
