Dastardly Deed it is but not a scam is it? Dunno where a report of such immature behaviour fits. Premium Chat perhaps? One of the Entertainment forums? Not a very light-hearted topic though.

Well, this is not exactly a phish but it is certainly a dastardly deed.
Demonstrating the depravity of some members of our species, we are already seeing some phishing attempts targetting the families of service members in Iraq claiming that a service friend was killed and has bequeathed his worldly goods the the family. This is a variation on the well known Nigerian Scam and is just as empty. _________________

I picked up on this too, for my monthly report. Here's more:
Email scams exploit Homeland Security and soldiers killed in Iraq (from Oregon State Enterprise Security Newsletter 2/23/05)
Federal authorities are investigating two email scams, including one targeting families of soldiers killed in Iraq, that claim to be connected to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Both of the online pleas for help – and money – link themselves to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) bureau's website. ICE is one branch of DHS. In one scheme, email sent to families of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq include a link to the bureau. The email seeks to recover money from a friend of the slain soldier. In the other, the email identifies itself as being sent by a federal agent trying to track down funds looted from the Iraqi Central Bank by Saddam Hussein's son. The email also links to the bureau website. Both email campaigns are bogus and people are urged to ignore and delete them. More info at: Information Week
Also, | Quote: | | This is a variation on the well known Nigerian Scam | I was talking to a co-worker yesterday who told me he read in the current Reader's Digest about a man who fell for one of these scams, and actually went to Africa and was met by rich-appearing people in an elegant domicile, who showed him a box full of money. When they told him he needed to give them $8,000 he became suspicious and tried to leave the country. They met him at the airport, forced him into a car, and demanded the money from him. I don't recall how he escaped...

We talked about this in my office after I viewed your link, Bill. We don't get it either.
