i deleted a fat partition that contains the image that my factory reset CD needs inorder to perform factory reset. i used the tool pc inspector file recovery and think i've found the delete partition, only i can't save the file on it. my c: drive is a primary partition with an NTFS file system which my OS is on and have an extended partition with a logical drive on it (i think that's right) that's empty. i've tried saving the file to both drives, (saving it as fat1, fat2 and consecutive ) but no luck. i've also tried saving it to a floppy. anyone know how i can save it?
i'm on windows XP.

and hope you can still benefit from partition recovery.
Go to http://www.symantec.com/partitionmagic/
We normally use Partition Magic to create and change partitions on client's systems, but we have used it to recover lost or deleted partitions successfully, depending on what has been done to attempt recovery before Partition Magic gets a chance to recover.
Hope this helps, Ken

Sorry, I didn't read your post carefully. What exactly do you mean that you think you've found the partition? Where can you see the partition? Maybe you don't need Partiion Magic after all but it sounds like the partition might not be fully recovered, in which case there might be a use for either Partition Magic or Executive Software's Undelete program which can also be downloaded at:
http://consumer.execsoft.com/undelete/undelete.asp
If you're still having trouble and need to recover the image file, could you provide some more detail about the things that have been tried and the current state of the system?
Also, you may be able to contact the manufacturer and get a restore CD which could include everything that was in the original drive image file.

sorry i meant i thought pc inspector had found the image, not the partition. it found a drive that contained only one file which was the same size the deleted partition was and had "windowsNT" in it's properties... it might not be it though.
i can't pay for the software yet but will look into it later on. the systems messed up but i should be ok installing linux on the free space for now.
thanks for the info.
