|
|
I am using SpywareGuard 2.2. Why is it that when I try to download the latest updates I get a message telling me that "There was an error downloading updates - the last working definitions have been loaded from backups"?
The latest definition listed in the Definitions Information window are listed as 8/30/03.
I configured my firewall to allow SpywareGuard access to the Internet and I have removed SpywareGuared and re-downloaded and installed the program again - same result.
I have enabled 'Live Upadate' but I have no confidence that the system is working.

Mine shows the latest definitions as 1/22/04. I guess it does not need to update often for no reason that I know of.

1/22/04 is the correct date for the latest update. I was able to contact the update servers this evening. _________________

Thanks, I was wondering if mine was not up to date.

Thought I'd just copy and paste what I have in my forum regarding this issue:
| Quote: | SpywareGuard is unique in that it does not require any constant definitions updates, due to its hueristic scanning engine.
Thusly, the last updated version, is 2.2, dated January 22, 2004
So, don't be upset, or concerned when you look for updates. When there is one available, it will be posted here.
See this thread for the 'official' explaination from Javacool .
EDIT:UPDATED[June10, 2005]:

The current real-time protection built into SpywareGuard 2.2 has been extended about as much as is possible - which unfortunately means a complete rewrite is in order to allow for future changes and updates. This is something I've been working on, but it hasn't been quick in coming.........
That said, again the most effective and useful protection for most users has probably been the Browser Hijacking Protection component (which alerts when various browser settings are changed in real-time), which doesn't require the database updates.........
A new version of SpywareGuard, with some rather interesting new features, is in development. While I don't yet have a clue when it'll be ready for release, I can say that, regardless of how effective you personally consider the real-time scanning component, the current version of SpywareGuard provides some strong protection against Browser Hijacking - by alerting the user as soon as such activity is detected. |
