|
|
When I booted today Kerio detected a new wireless network with the IP address 169.254.0.0. When I did a whois search for this, it came up as IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. Any idea what is going on here?
Thanks

This is an IP address that your computer may pickup if you can't contact a DHCP server. Check your connection to your DHCP server.

Isn't my router my DHCP server?
I assume my connection to it is OK.

Possibly. What IP address do you usually recieve? It may have just been a one off.

Not sure what you are asking. What IP address do I receive when?
If I run ipconfig, it shows my router's address 192.168.0.1 as the DHCP server.

What happens if you type ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew? Are you only getting this IP address when you have SKPF4 enabled? If so, try with SKPF4 disabled.

IS this on a desktop or laptop?
Also, Check the Device Manager, Adapters and advise what is shown.

It's a laptop.
It shows the Wireless Adaptor, and the ethernet connection.

I had the same issue with SKPF4 on my wife's laptop. That issue was reported in another post in this forum. I also believe there was another instance of it of the same problem reported in this forum. If you turn off the Network Protection, you can connect. But doing that would defeat the purpose of the firewall in the first place.
From my investigations, it appears that Kerio does not check all the adapters to see if any can obtain an IP address. In my csae, the 169.254.x.x IP address was from the Lan adapter (NIC) and Kerio never did check the wireless adapter. _________________ Duct tape is like the Force. I've since deleted that entry in the network list, and it has not come up again. Perhaps it was, as Graham suggested, because the computer could not contact the DHCP server in my router.
