Rather than ignoring graphics, I would like to optionally see the gifs, jpgs and pngs, etc. curerently ignored in the preview pane. Just curiosity I suppose, but there may be a practical use for this.

It would help people reporting spam to know where to report it, but for the most part I really don't want to see what they might be sending!

I realise there may be pornographic images in some, but there is almost certainly going to be some text in graphical form that points to the ultimate advertiser. It's all clues to report and if we merely delete all this evidence we might be passing up an opportunity to report.
Apart from that, I wouldn't mind seeing a few pics in MWP. It's a boring interface that I spend too much time within every day.

Bear in mind that NOT opening Images and /or running HTML is a part of the safety that MWP provides.

I would like the ability to view a gif without downloading the entire message into my mail program, just for that safety reason. Isn't it possible to either show a gif or say it isn't a valid gif file and not open it?
But I definitely don't want them displayed as default. Believe me, there are plenty of pornographic images, and the text is often part of the image, then the whole gif file is the hyperlink.

Yes, the more I think about it, I'd definitely like to have the choice to view pics available. I cull a lot of legitimate email in MWP (just read and delete, no reporting of course) and it would be good to be able to view graphics to aid in the decision whether to delete or not. Default=off is OK with me. A button next to the 'View source" button called "View pics" would be ideal.

Displaying in-line graphics shouldn't be a security problem, that comes from displaying linked images that have to be downloaded from a web server.
Having image display as a user selected option could be interesting especially if it only showed the portion of the graphic you had downloaded with the ability to request the rest. _________________ Questions? Try the wiki

Yes, that's a good idea.

The reason for not opening images isn't just that they might be offensive. Some images allow the sender to know when the image is viewed -- spyware if you will. Dunno if there's a reliable way of spotting those....

True. I must have missed your post Stan. If only included images are to be viewed, only the tastefulness need be considered. Perhaps a thumbnail would quickly asertain the general nature of the graphic? In any case, it needs to be displayed only if requested such that the TOP mechanism isn't defeated.

I too would like the OPTION to view graphics - For example, if a friend has sent me a photo inside an email and I want to view it without taking the time to download all my mail then it would be very nice to be able to do so right inside mailwasher.

I hadn't thought about images in good emails. For those of us who report spam, it might take a while to disposition all of it, so it would be good to be able to see images in messages without downloading all the spam.

Hi All,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't code be embedded in images?
And therefore by previewing images, aren't you defeating
the security premise of MailWasher?
Bad out. _________________ MS's "New Coke"

I should think if code were embedded, a gif image viewer would not run it or even be able to open it.
