I failed the Shields UP!! test. Only 3 ports were stealthed. I emailed Grisoft about this but got no response.

Got the same result with Kerio v4.2. Could this be due to my using a dial-up connection and not broadband? There's no mention of 'stealth' in Kerio's 'Help'.

The reason you want your ports to be "stealthed" is so they do not appear to be either open nor closed. They are invisible to probes that criminal hackers use to detect unprotected computers. Any probes of this nature are blocked by your firewall. It has nothing to do with the type of connection you are using.
What's your operating system? You may need to shore up your configuration?
Did you try ZoneAlarm? A word of advice though, do not run more than one firewall at any time. Firewalls conflict with each other and would cancel each other out. _________________

Win2k pro. Will download and try Zone Alarm. I use one firewall at a time. How do I shore up my configuration?

Hallo !
the described problem i have met very often. The reason of fail the test is to use NAT (Network Address Translation) technology.
In this case, your computer (with firewall) is not scanned by testing page. Your NAT device (very often your or ISP router) is scanned instead.
Please, type from command line:
ipconfig
and if you will see
IP Address : 192.168.xxx.yyy
or
IP Address : 10.xxx.yyy.zzz
for your adapter for Internet connection you are NATed and your computer cannot be scanned by check engine.
We are testing AVG firewall for absolutely stealth mode before every update, because this is one of the main part of Firewall function. Everytime, ti pass the test, but computer with firewall has got public IP address, (is connected to the internet directly, without NAT)
Of course, you have to select Standalone Computer or On Move profile, when you generate your config by Wizard- these profiles are designed for stealth. Domain profile is not stealth, because it expects Corporate firewall too on the edge perimeter.
Maybe, it helps.
