|
|
Dear All,
I'd like to strongly suggest you add the option to automatically add an ENTIRE DOMAIN to a blacklist if the email is NOT already whitelisted.
I regularly spend time manually DOMAIN blacklisting emails, and get a bit irritated when an email is listed as being blacklisted, but in fact, it's only the email address that is blacklisted, and NOT the domain.
I do not hide any email, but instead I view every incoming mail via Mailwasher, so that I can manually whitelist any new email addy's I need.
It's really a waste of time to blacklist a specific email, when it's the domain that needs to be blacklisted.
I checked the rules, and there is nothing i saw that could do what I need it to do using rules. Regex and filters to me, are a waste of time, when all i need is to view every email at the server, and have their domains autoblacklisted unless they are already in my whitelist.
If need be, hide this autodomain blacklist option by nesting it within submenu's, to keep it from newbies, and make the option to force viewing of every email (and not hiding them), a default, so as to keep newbies from making a mess for themselves.
I don't know how you could do this, but my blacklist file is very large (535Kb), and I regularly maintain it so that all domains are blacklisted, and dupes are removed. I get messages saying to remove entries in my blacklist because it's so large.
If Mailwasher could blacklist the domains automatically, it seems to me that perhaps the blacklist.txt file would not even have to be used anymore, resulting in performance increases.
What do you think?
Thanks for all your help. I really do appreciate the product.

Why bother blacklisting? Really you are saying that any email not on your whiltelist is to be deleted correct? A simple filter can delete any msg that isn't on your Friends List:
| Code: | | If the entire header contains RegExpr"." then mark the message as mail to be deleted. |

Or you could also add *@* to your blacklist as a wildcard, so everything except friends email is blacklisted. _________________ I wish my lawn was emo, then it would cut itself

Since the spammers are forging the domain part of the e-mail address what they are tricking you into doing is blocking mail from folks that never sent a spam.
Last time I counted, over 90% of my spam had obviously forged addresses and lots of the remaining 10% was suspect. _________________ Questions? Try the wiki

You have a good point, as I do recognize that domains are also forged. But I don't really block any email. I actually -want- to view every single email at the server so I can whitelist any valid emails. About 80% or more of the approx 100-200 emails I get daily, are spam. I just want a way to have mailwasher mark everything but my whitelist for deletion, and to delete them upon hitting the Process Mail now button.
The two tips above may well do the trick.
Thanks.
Now if you could allow the user (uh, me), to use ONLY the mouse to perform commands on multiple emails (such as whitelist several emails) at once without having to use the keyboard (as was the case with Mailwasher 2beta), I'd be even happier.
Thanks to all for your help.

Not sure what you mean. I never have to touch the keyboard when using MWP. I just click either "delete" and if SPAM "SpamCop" or "friends" through the list of messages then click Process mail. I gave up on the blacklist for the reasons given earlier.

I used to be able to just click one one email, then select multiple contiguous emails by dragging and releasing the mouse button. At that point, a right-click to add domain to blacklist, took care of it all.
What I have to do now, is use the keyboard to do multiple selects. In MW beta, I never had to do that. My hand never left the mouse.
Thanks

Hi,
This does work, but increases my blacklist size, and does that ol' pet peeve of mine of adding single email addresses, instead of domains, to my blacklist.
While emails will get marked for deletion, this is no longer a valid option for me, and my blacklist will get way too big, way too fast. In fact, it's already way too big.
Nice try though.
Thank you.

Hi,
This turned out to be the best solution, as this does not increase the size of my blacklist, but, it doesn't mark -everything- for deletion.
I've moved the rule to the top, tried it in conjunction with *@* as a blacklist mark for deletion entry, tried the latter option alone, restarted MWP after each change of setting, cheered it on, etc. No workie 100%.
I guess I'll use your suggestion for now, or go back to going to manual domain blacklisting as before, until such time as a more simple option that is built-in to MWP marks -everything- for deletion unless it's in my whitelist.
An auto-mark-for-delete option which works for -every- email address, including mal-formed or 'blank' addresses, is what seems to be required here.
Thanks again
