First, USB modems are much less reliable than their ethernet equivalents. If the modem has an ethernet connection, and you have a NIC in your system, use ethernet, the connection will work much better. USB modems are a kludge IMHO.
Having said that, there are any number of possibilities for the problem, starting with a noisy phone line. Then the modem itself may be defective. Or the cable from the phone line to the modem might be defective, and so could the USB cable. It could also be the USB drivers for the modem, or your USB OS drivers. Another possibility is that the USB connector on your system is either loose or not working completely correctly. Finally, make sure that the modem is connected to one of the USB connectors on the backplane of your system, using any other USB connector for a DSL modem (via a USB hub or a front connector on your case) is not recommended.
I would call your DSL provider and have them test your line for noise first. A noisy line or inadequate signal strength from their POP will cause frequent disconnects and modem resets. They can also check the log files from your modem and try to determine why you disconnect so freequently. _________________ Don't read? Can't learn!

No, not unless there is an update for the USB modem drivers. Otherwise, you need to check out the possible problems I suggested in my prior post. Again, I don't recommend USB broadband modems, they do not work well in my experience, and just give a fair percentage of people who use them problems. You would be much better off with an ethernet one. _________________ Don't read? Can't learn!

Glad it is working now. I really don't like USB modems, they are often more problems than they are worth. _________________ Don't read? Can't learn!
