I have several filters set that hide emails, thanks to the spammers who've hijacked my domain!

Mailwasher is set-up such that I first press Check for Mail, then hit the Process Mail button to clean up the list and finally press the Mail Program button to open OE. I do not automatically open OE when I process the mail.

Every now and then, I have brain fade and I look at the list of emails, see they're all legitimate and I skip the Process Mail step, only to find that there are several "hidden" emails that appear in OE when it opens.

Would it be possible for a message to be issued if there are hidden emails before the mail client is opened to warn me that there are hidden emails that will be loaded in to the mail client and to give me an option to cancel opening the mail client? This then gives me the chance to delete the hidden emails.

Thanks
Steve

It often happens that spam arrives in the short interval between checking for mail with mailwasher and then downloading to your mail program after processing in mailwasher. I do MWP check -- MWP processing -- MWP check -- mail program check.

As a rule, I do the same. The problem is that I sometimes look at the list of emails and see no spam so bypass the "process" step.

It's my own fault in that there is a status message at the bottom of the screen stating that there are "hidden" emails... it's just that I don't always register the message in the back of my mind. Mentally, I ignore it. I'm in a bit of a rush, so te message hits a blind spot.

On the basis that no one is likely to WANT to open their email client with hidden emails in the list, it just seemed a reasonable (and quick to implement) task to popup a message asking if you're sure you want top open the email client as there are hidden emails.

As we say, here in the UK, "belt and braces".

Steve

I used to have the same problem Steve - to resolve it, I no longer hide any email.

Nice theory, but I have to monitor a couple of email accounts that are known by our clients. These have also been hijacked by spammers, so I can expect between 100 and 200 "undelivered" and "your message is spam" type bounced messages to arrive in the inbox. I'd prefer not to see these since they distract from the normal (useful) stuff.

Wouldn't it be nice if the servers didn't bounce spam??

If your filter is hiding the mail and you are not reviewing it before processing, you might as well be using auto delete.

Probably the only instance where I agree that auto-delete would be appropriate.

Another option is to remove those addresses from the "default mail check" - then only check them manually, say once in the morning and once before leaving work. It does involved a little more manual work but making a conscious effort of it would eliminate the cranial flatulence factor.

Some people hide the mail from friends if they primarily use their regular mail program to read incoming mail -- so they only use MWP to sort out things that are not from friends. They would routinely be opening their mail program with hidden emails.
