|

When someone sends me an e-mail and encloses a hyperlink within the body of their message I can not click on the link (using Outlook express 6.0).
This feature previously worked and a new window would open upwhen a hyper link was clicked upon.
I have tried a bunch of things via the web, to rectify the issue to no avail.
Below is what I tried from Microsoft. I also re-installed the OS as well; still the hyperlinks do not work! At this point,I must cut and paste and then open up another browser window all together. Any insight I would apprciate.
Thanks all.
Here is what I tried from Microsoft.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:
1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):
• Shdocvw.dll
• Actxprxy.dll
• Oleaut32.dll
• Mshtml.dll
• Browseui.dll
• Shell32.dll

Hi Tailrotor,
Try the suggestion on this page . As you have re-registered the dll's, this procedure should fix your problem.
If you usr Firefox as your default web browser then try entering the following line as the default action:
C:\PROGRA~1\MOZILL~1\FIREFOX.EXE -url "%1" -requestPending
(Copy that line and paste into the text box to save typing). _________________ Never stop learning

Hello Guys:
Thanks for the info Mister2 and Ko27. I tried everything that you Guys forwared me...still a mission failure. Mister2 you mentioned if I use Firefox to paste the line you enclosed in your last response. Where does that line or where should that line be added to? I am beginning to think it may be an Internet Explorer conflict after I installed Firefox.
Here is a question: "Can I make or direct Outlook Express to use Firefox to open my hyperlinks? If this is possible this may be my work around.
Thank you both.

The answer to your question is 'Yes'.
First, open Firefox, go to Tools, Options and click 'Main'. In the System Defaults section at the bottom of that window make sure 'Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup' is checked, then click the 'Check Now' button. Make sure FF is the default, close the window and close Firefox.
Next, highlight and copy this command:
C:\PROGRA~1\MOZILL~1\FIREFOX.EXE -url "%1" -requestPending
Then open My Computer and go to Tools, Folder Options and click the FileTypes tab. Click on "(NONE) URL:Hyper Text Transfer Protocol". Click the Advanced button. In the box entitled Edit, click once on 'Open' to highlight it, then click the Edit button. Paste the command in the box for 'Application used to perform this action".
Click OK, OK, Apply. Repeat with the entry "(NONE) URL:Hyper Text Transfer Protocol with Privacy".
Finally, click Close and close My Computer. See what yout hyperlinks do now. (You may need to uncheck 'Use DDE' but try it first before unchecking that box). _________________ Never stop learning

Hi Mister2:
The saga continues. Followed your excellent direction to the letter with regard to making Firefox the default browser...IE still starts when I click on a hyperlink and the new window freezes/locks up as always.
Do you think I should try updating my Outlook Express to 7.0? Do you think that would help?
If not, any other ideas?
Again, you have been great, thanks for your help.

When I finish work tonight I will review what we have done and where we go now. It's unusual for all the fixes to fail.
Outlook Express is still v 6, Internet Explorer has moved on to v 7.0, but there have been problems updating. If we go that way then I will give you a link to the full install.
What Operating System are you running, and what type of internet connection do you have (dialup, broadband, DSL)?
When you click a link and the IE window opens, is there an address in the Address bar at the top (where it says something like /p909490-.html#909490 at the top of this one)?
I will post back later with some more options. _________________ Never stop learning

Hello Mister2
I run multiple OS's but the OS with the hyperlink issue is Windows ME (I have a weird connection to it still). I have a DSL connection. What I cannot pinpoint at this juncture and don't understand is that clicking on a hyperlink always worked up until recently. On or about the hyperlink issue I remember upgrading Mailwasher to the lastest version and optaining a high speed connection.
Now that you mention it, I have heard the same with regard to Internet Explorer 7.0. IE 7.0 it seems does not support my Operating system anyway so that would not be an option for me.
When I click on a hyperlink within the body of a message an new window opens but that's it. The address bar is always blank. For lack of a better term, it's like the computer is thinking but has no direction as to were to go. The IE world icon is spiining in the upper left hand conner however. After 4 or 5 minutes I close the window and revert back to copy/pasting the link.
I hope this helps with your diagnosis and admire your determination with regard to helping me.
Thanks
Deb

Hi again,
Sorry I didn't get back earlier but I had A problem with a collapsed tooth, but all fixed up now.
This is certainly a stubborn one - at least one of the fixes you tried should have produced a result. I have a couple of ideas, but I'm not convinced they will solve the problem, however they will not do any harm:
- Follow the instructions in my second post above but instead of the command I posted there, copy the following command and paste it into the 'Application used to perform this action' box:
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\MOZILLA FIREFOX\FIREFOX.EXE" -url "%1" -requestPending
(Copy the whole lot, including the quotes).
That should force Firefox to open from a link in OE. If not then go back and change the command to
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
Again, include the quotes, then try this:
- Open Internet Explorer and go to Tools Internet Options, Advanced. In the "Browsing" section uncheck 'Enable third party browser extensions'. Click OK and close IE. See if links from OE will open correctly now.
- If still no luck, go to Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Look for Internet Explorer (not sure if Win ME has a separate section relating to Windows components). If it is there then click on it and select 'Repair' - this should reset your file associations to the default. You may be asked for your Windows installation CD for the repair.
I will keep looking for further solutions, but hopefully one of the above will work.
Let me know how it goes.
EDIT
Are you by any chance using a popup blocker in IE? _________________ Never stop learning

Hi Mister2:
Sorry about your tooth issue, I am glad it turned out ok. Dental work is always interesting to say the least!
I am a good worker and I tried the firefox latest string you directed me to accomplish...still a no go! IE still opens when I click on a hyperlink in Outlook Express and freezes. Nothing has changed and unfortunaltey no positive movement forward.
I had PC Tools Spyware Doctor and CA Pest Patrol but removed them some time ago. Now, all I run is AVG Professional version. Perhaps I still have some files lurking in my system registry that is causing a conflict?
As always thank you for trying to work my problem and not giving up.
As I said before, I admire your determination!
Have a good week
Deb

Mister2:
Sorry, I did not add this to the post. I tried to locate the below but: "Enable third party browser extensions" is not present under the Browsing section or any other place for that matter or I would have followed your direction.
I tried the IE repair default a few weeks ago with the hope of rectifying my issue...but unfortunately mission failure there as well.
So needless to say I am bummed out.

|
|
Hello All:
Just wanted to let Mister2 and KO27 know that I finally fixed/figured out what the famous Hyper link issue was. It seems it was not software related it was my video card and or drivers. All I can confirm is I upgraded my video card and loaded new drivers and the problem was solved. One for the record books I guess!
Thanks Guys
Take care
