I'm missing sound when using MS LexiRom in win98se.
Soundcard: TerraTec 128iPCI
Maybe it's because LexiRom uses wav-files and the
wav-part of the driver is not properly installed.
Is it possible with this soundcard? If yes, what do I
have to do to make it work?

Thanks for the hint and sorry for the late reply.
1. The sample 'wav'-file from KB811982 plays properly.
2. dxdiag did not uncover any error, all tests were successful.
I tried also to play all files in the LexiRom data directory \books\Mm .
Some play ok, some don't. If I have to speculate, I'd guess that
some of the 'wav'-files require special codecs which are not present
on my box. How would I proceed to find out the missing codec(s)?

Hi k027,
Downloaded the corresponding codec package and installed it.
Still no sound in LexiRom. Using GSPOT.EXE, I could identify the missing
codec: 0x0002 (ADPCM).
The downloaded package from MS obviously did not contain or
not install this codec.
What now?

GSpot tells you whether a particular needed codec is installed on your system and also provides some leads on how to find codecs.
The particular codec you mentioned is a standard Windows codec that comes with your operating system. Perhaps yours is missing or corrupt.
This explains how to remove/install default Windows codecs:

Thanks for this hint. After installing the specific two codecs, which have
ADPCM in their name, all files in the previously named LexiRom directory
\books\Mm do play ok now. Great!
One problem remains: LexiRom itself allows to listen to the pronunciation
of foreign words after activating the corresponding option.
When I try to listen to the pronunciation of a word, no sound is produced.
Since I don't know where the corresponding soundfiles are, I can't test
listening to them from outside.
I'll try to (re)-install all default codecs and give notice here if that solves this last problem.

I finally found the wav file containing the pronunciations: pron.wav .
Test with GSpot revealed that the GSM audio codec was still missing.
Installed it with the help of codecguide.
Now LexiRom talks!
