Sometimes when I plug into the wall plug with my computer and hit the switch on, 98se, as it reaches the desktop I get a firewall Dialog box Alert showing a couple of attempts by an IP addy to contact my machine via a UDP Datagram.

The Dialog box is showing me the attempts and Blocking of those attempts.

What I have never known but am asking now is,
how can there be attempts to contact my machine, showing the correct time even, when I am not plugged into the net ?

There can be attempts to contact your computer regardless of whether your computer is connected to the internet. Your firewall can only record those attempts that it "sees". Your firewall can only "see" those attempts made while your computer is connected to the internet.

Thanks K027,

What I still can't get a hold of is, How can my FIREWALL possibly
record ANYTHING from the net, while NOT connected to the net ?

Regards.
