Im looking to back up my logical drive to another logical drive about once or twice a month. The initial drive doesnt change data a whole lot, its just programs and media, and is around 300Gb. I want to create an initial backup file, and when the backup program goes to update it, i want it to modify the original file without creating any extra ones.

I currently use ghost 9 for backup imaging of my host drive, but when i went to backup my logical drive it took 6 hours, and when i tried to update it, it either wanted to take another 6 hours and essentially re-do it entirely giving me an warning that the 500Gb drive im backing up to didnt have enough memory, or it tried to create a bunch of incremental files.

So is there any program out there that will create a single backup file and update it quickly and without clutter?

Oh yeah, forgot to mention it was for XP pro sp1. I think i may have found what i am looking for. Its called disk mirroring. Not sure yet. Playing with Genie backup.

I was really hoping ghost would do this, but to tell you the reality of it, to get ghost to work i have to make a shortcut to the desktop and spam click it cause it will never open the first second or third time. Maybe i will have to use genie to backup my logical drive and powerquest drive image to create a disk image of my host. There really should be a program that can do both. I heard acronis trueimage can but when i tried it out it wouldnt install and the company doesnt have any clue how to fix that apparently common problem.

From what i can tell this genie program is just copying my files directly from one drive to the other without using any sort of single file. Im having a hard time seeing why i need a program to do that.

So i guess my problem still stands, does anyone know of a program that can do disk mirroring but still create a single image file of the drive?

ok, dont worry about it. Genie works fine, updates only the files that have been modified, super nice to use. Turns out even though ghost and powerquest driveimage are the same program, powerquest is alot more stable. Leave it to symnatec to fuck up something thats already working fine.
